Life of the characters
Li Zongdao was born on November 23, 1914 in an ordinary staff family in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He was born in the suburb of Shanghai. In 1930, when he was in the second grade of junior high school, his father died of illness. After his father's good friend Xia Yingtang helped him, he was able to continue to study. In 1934, after graduating from the high school attached to Shanghai Guanghua University, he was admitted to the Agricultural College of Nanjing Jinling University, majoring in Agronomy and auxiliary in agricultural economics. In 1937, the Japanese invaders invaded on a large scale, and he was in trouble again. At this time, Jinling University moved to Chengdu, Sichuan. He had to take his mother to Chengdu. In order to support his family, he worked everywhere, saved a little money and went back to school. Later, Jinling University and other five universities set up a student self-help organization, the student commune. He was recommended by the student commune to teach English in the night school of Chengdu YMCA. Since then, he attended classes in the University during the day and lectured in the night school of Chengdu YMCA. The distance between the two places was more than 30 Li, and he traveled back and forth, rain or shine. He worked and studied hard, and finally ended his marathon college career in 1942.
After graduating from University, he was recommended by his teacher to work in the Agricultural Committee of the aftercare Department of the Executive Yuan. Two years later, he was promoted to technical chief. In 1947, he was employed as an associate professor in the Agricultural College of National Nanjing University, and was promoted to professor the next year. In 1949, he returned to Shanghai Guanghua University as the director of the agricultural experimental farm.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the national colleges and universities were adjusted, and Li Zongdao was employed to teach in Hunan Agricultural University. When he first came to the college, Li Yizhi, Secretary of the Party committee and President of the college, said to him, "when you go to work in Hunan, you need to understand Hunan. When you are engaged in agriculture, you need to understand the countryside. You are from a big city. You should go to the countryside first." Li Zongdao took off his suit and went to Datong Lake farm the next day. After that, he went to the hemp planting area for a long time, three times, one year each time. President Li's talk and three years of rural practice had a profound impact on the change of his thoughts and feelings and the establishment of the direction of serving production.
Li Zongdao was only 37 years old when he came to Hunan Agricultural College, and he was the youngest professor in the college. He considered that the advantage of ramie in the world is in China, while the advantage of Chinese ramie is in Hunan. Although ramie is an important economic crop, but at that time ramie scientific research is still a blank, has a bright future, so selected ramie as a lifelong career, determined to blossom and bear fruit in this virgin land.
Li Zongdao was wrongly classified as a "rightist" in 1957 when he energetically carried out teaching and scientific research and made achievements one after another. The sudden blow made him feel at a loss for a moment, but his strong enterprising spirit soon perked him up, and he buried himself in his work, determined to prove himself with facts. In 1963, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held the "ten year planning conference of agricultural science" in Beijing. The Ministry of agriculture recommended Li Zongdao to attend the conference according to his achievements and reputation in the field of hemp research. The conference decided that the Ministry of agriculture should set up two research offices of hemp and tobacco in Colleges and universities throughout the country. The hemp Research Office was located in Hunan Agricultural University, and Li Zongdao was appointed as the director of the research office. This meeting made him see the magnificent development prospect of agricultural science and the great esteem of the party and the state for himself, thus firming his determination to work hard. In the "Cultural Revolution", his research laboratory was canceled, his instruments and equipment were separated, more than 300 precious ramie varieties collected from the whole country were dug up, and Li Zongdao's body and mind were also affected. However, his belief in the Communist Party and his pursuit of ramie career remained unchanged. He consciously seized the time, persisted in scientific research during the day, worked hard at night, and often worked deep Night. He was convinced that the spring of science would come again.
In 1978, Li Zongdao's "rightists" were completely rehabilitated, and the ramie research laboratory was restored. In 1985, with the approval of the provincial government, the research laboratory was upgraded to ramie Research Institute, with Li Zongdao as its director. In 1987, he became the only doctoral supervisor of ramie discipline in China.
After decades of efforts by Li Zongdao, Hunan Agricultural University has become the national training center of Ramie Technology and research center of ramie science and technology. Li Zongdao has trained nearly a thousand hemp professionals in China, including more than 100 undergraduate and junior college students, 7 master's degree students and 15 doctoral degree students. At present, there are still 8 doctoral students and 2 postdoctoral students. Li Zongdao has made a series of scientific research achievements, and has won 20 national, provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress, creating remarkable economic benefits. At the first international ramie symposium held in Changsha in 1989, it was generally acknowledged that China's Ramie scientific research level was in the leading position in the world, which was inseparable from Li Zongdao's lifelong efforts.
Li Zongdao's achievements have been affirmed and appreciated by the party and the government. In 1990, he won the honorary certificate and bonus of "outstanding achievements in supporting agriculture and poverty alleviation and serving agriculture and forestry production" issued by the State Education Commission, the Ministry of agriculture and the Ministry of forestry; in September of the same year, he enjoyed the special contribution allowance approved by the State Council in the first batch; in 1996, he won the honorary title of the first "science and technology star of Hunan Province".
In addition to his duties in the University, Li Zongdao has also served as a member of the expert committee of the Agricultural Comprehensive Experimental Zone, a national key scientific and technological project of the eighth five year plan, a senior consultant of the Institute of bast fiber of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, a member of the standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, a consultant of the leading group for ramie development of Hunan Province, a consultant of the Hunan Economic System Reform Commission, a member of the Hunan Science and technology expert advisory committee, and a member of the Jiusan Society Member of Hunan provincial Party committee. When he took up these posts and jobs, he actively put forward various suggestions to the relevant departments of the state and the province.
Technical achievements
Ramie has been cultivated in China for more than 5000 years, but there are very few scientific and technological materials about ramie. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, only a pamphlet "law on ramie planting" was published in the "universal library" published by Shanghai Commercial Press, which is only more than 20000 words, including some Japanese materials. In order to do a good job in teaching, but also in order to make China's Ramie science and technology level leap to the leading position in the world, Li Zongdao is determined to make full use of Hunan's advantages in ramie production to develop science and technology. To this end, on the one hand, he went deep into Ma Xiang and made a great contribution to the society
