Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
Chengdu Research Base of giant panda breeding is one of the main research bases for the Chinese government to implement the ex situ conservation project of endangered wild animals such as giant panda, and is a national AAAA tourist attraction.

Base evolution
Chengdu Research Base of giant panda breeding is established on the basis of raising, curing and breeding giant pandas in Chengdu Zoo. In the 1980s, Fargesia froze and died in Qionglai mountains, and some giant pandas were rescued to Chengdu Zoo due to lack of food and hunger.
In 1987, in order to strengthen the management of the treatment of sick and hungry giant pandas, separate the function of giant panda education and display from that of rescue research, strengthen the scientific research of giant pandas, and improve the level of giant panda breeding, Chengdu Municipal People's government decided to establish Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research base, and implement a set of team and two brands with Chengdu Zoo.
After 1990, Chengdu base and Chengdu Zoo were divided into two independent entities.
In 1992, the giant panda museum was opened to tourists.
In 1997, Chengdu Research Base of giant panda breeding established the first open laboratory in China to carry out the research on the protection of endemic and endangered species in China with the joint support of more than 15 million people from the State Planning Commission, Chengdu Planning Commission and Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation.
In 2000, it took the lead in carrying out public protection education in the national wildlife protection system and established the Ministry of science education.
In 2001, the open laboratory was named "Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of endangered animal breeding and conservation genetics" by Sichuan Provincial Science and technology department. In the same year, Chengdu base cooperated with Sichuan University to carry out research and experiment.
In 2003, the base was awarded the "advanced unit of talent development in Sichuan Province" by Sichuan provincial Party committee and Sichuan provincial government, and was awarded the national "post doctoral research workstation" by the Ministry of personnel.
In 2006, it was officially awarded "national AAAA scenic spot" by the National Tourism Administration.
In 2007, the laboratory was officially approved by the Ministry of science and technology of the people's Republic of China as "endangered wildlife biology - State Key Laboratory jointly built by the Ministry and the province". At the same time, modern giant panda museum, animal specimen museum and gene resource bank of endangered animals have been established in Chengdu base and Sichuan University respectively.
In 2011, the International Research Center for giant panda conservation biology, jointly established by the base and the global science foundation, was also established in the base.
In September 2014, the base was awarded the honorary title of "national advanced group of technical talents".
On October 1, the Dujiangyan breeding and wild release Research Center - "panda Valley" was opened to the public.
On April 20, 2015, "panda Valley" was officially opened to the public.
In April 2019, the southwest tourism area alliance was jointly launched with 8 units including Chengdu Wuhou Temple Museum and Chengdu Dufu thatched cottage museum.

Panda Breeding
In 1987, Chengdu base successfully bred 62 fetuses and 88 cubs of giant pandas on the basis of rescuing 6 sick and hungry giant pandas left in the field, and 54 cubs survived; the number of captive giant pandas increased from 8 in 1991 to 47 in 2005, which is one of the main export units of giant pandas in China.
