With a construction area of more than 26000 square meters, the African Pavilion covers an area equivalent to three and a half standard football fields, and the total area of four facades is 9500 square meters. It is the largest of the 11 United pavilions in Shanghai World Expo. The indoor net height of the pavilion is 9 meters, and each country in the pavilion covers an area of 250 square meters. Forty three African countries and one international organization (AU) will be on display in the African Joint Pavilion.

The facade of the African Union museum also adopts the internationally advanced spray painting film technology, and the spray painting engineering material adopts the internationally advanced UV ink, which has the advantages of environmental protection, pollution-free to human body, anti ultraviolet, and not easy to fade.

The exhibition area inside the African Pavilion is divided into the exhibition area of the exhibitors and the public area. The exhibition of African exhibitors is the main body of Africa Pavilion. The African Union Commission officially confirmed its participation in the Shanghai World Expo on December 10, 2006. It is the 161st exhibitor to sign the Shanghai World Expo participation contract.

On November 11, 2007, the Ministry of foreign affairs of Libya sent a note to the Chinese Embassy in Libya, officially confirming its participation in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. On November 18, 2008, the African Union Commission signed an exhibition contract for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Nadir Merah, general representative of the AU Commission exhibition area, and Hong Hao, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai municipal government and director of Shanghai World Expo Bureau, signed the participation contract on behalf of the AU Commission and the organizer of Shanghai World Expo respectively. The organizers of Shanghai World Expo have prepared 31000 square meters exhibition hall for African countries in Zone C of the Expo planning park for joint exhibition by more than 40 African countries. Guided by the guiding ideology of "unified exhibition concept" and "personalized exhibition of National Pavilions", Africa United Pavilion will show the overall image and long history and culture of Africa, and highlight the new achievements in the process of urbanization and economic development of Africa. In addition, on the south side of the United Pavilion, there are 14 modules, covering 7000 square meters of space, for African countries using self built or leased pavilions to display. There will also be a special African square for cultural activities in the African exhibition area, so that the world can enjoy the vivid cultural and artistic performances of Africa. 　

National Themes

The design scheme of the exhibition hall of African participating countries and African union organizations has been basically determined. At that time, the African United Pavilion will present the unique ideas and unique exhibits of various countries with rich colors, and deduce various African themes and profound cultural heritage.

Sudan: with the theme of "city and peace", through the display of historical features, achievements in peace building and urban development, the significance of peace to Sudan's development is demonstrated, and a better future is expected. The traditional exhibition elements and various exhibition forms in the exhibition hall together give this ancient country a restrained fashion atmosphere. The entrance is in the shape of savajin gate, a traditional Sudanese building, showing its dignity in the Danding. The whole exhibition area has a strong Arabic style, full of mysterious atmosphere of the Sahara desert.

Gambia: with the theme of "changing our lives for a better life", the Pavilion shows the nature and urban life of Gambia. Across the entrance arch of Banjul City, the audience is immediately attracted by the central blue water, sailing boat, beach chair and sunshade, feeling the charm of Africa's smiling coast. The world-famous zhufulei village and James Island, a world heritage site, add to the cultural atmosphere of the exhibition hall.

Ethiopia: the theme of the exhibition is "the comprehensive heritage of the city - the Ethiopian experience". The Ethiopia Pavilion will show its ancient civilization, wisdom and city civilization, which have been handed down for centuries, and how to use tolerant attitude to protect cultural traditions and relics, and to deal with the challenges of city development. The most eye-catching part of the exhibition hall is the exhibition area of "ancient city of Harrell". In the process of walking through the city gate and the city wall and walking in the streets, the audience will feel the extraordinary diversity of buildings, the bustling crowd and the vibrant market in the ancient city of Harrell, and experience the most real life scenes of the people in the ancient city of Harrell. At the end of the street, you can tell the story of coffee under the huge umbrella with local characteristics of Ethiopia, attend a coffee party and enjoy the eight world heritages of Ethiopia.

Namibia: the theme of "experiencing the diversity of life" is selected in a unique way. Around the three sub themes of exploration, discovery and dream, Namibia's traditional lifestyle, urban community reconstruction, nature and wildlife protection are interpreted to show a gorgeous Namibia. At the entrance of the exhibition hall is an impressive elephant rock, flanked by a tall baobab tree. Following the signpost with strong traditional style, visitors will travel through 11 beautiful Namibian major cities and regions.

Tanzania: with the theme of "sustainable development of urbanization", the exhibition of urban life, art and civilization at the World Expo will enable visitors to experience the "charm of harmony". The Tanzanian Pavilion, with its unique ebony color as the main color, combines the overall structure full of modern sense with the ancient straw eaves to show the harmony between the national urbanization process and nature.
