brief introduction
Since the establishment of the county in the Yuan Dynasty, Shanghai has not built a city wall, and was invaded by Japanese pirates many times in the Ming Dynasty.
Therefore, in 1553, it took only three months to build a city wall with a circumference of 9 li and a height of 2.4 Zhang. There were more than 3600 battlements and two enemy towers on the city wall. Along the outside of the city wall, there were a moat with a width of 6 Zhang, a depth of 1.7 Zhang and a circumference of more than 1500 Zhang.
In 1557, three more enemy towers and 20 more arrow towers were built.
During the Wanli period, when the Japanese invasion subsided and the county was peaceful, Danfeng tower, Guanyin Pavilion, Zhenwu temple and Dajing Pavilion were built on four arrow platforms.
Dajing Pavilion, built on Dajing arrow platform, is a three story pavilion with exquisite structure and unique shape.
This pavilion was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty for the statue of emperor Guan (formerly known as the hall of emperor Guan). In 1815, it was rebuilt into a three storey high Pavilion (today's Pavilion).
In the first year of Daoguang (1821), the governor Tao Shu went to the pavilion for sightseeing and personally inscribed the plaque of "kuangguan" on the "xichuntai". In the 16th year of Daoguang (1836), Chen Luan, the governor of Liangjiang, visited the pavilion and inscribed the four characters of "Daqian Shengjing" on the Dongshou stone square.
As a result, the pavilion gained a great reputation and was listed as one of the eight scenic spots in Shanghai, "Jianggao Jixue" scenic spot, becoming one of the hot spots in Shencheng tourism.
Since modern times, Dajing pavilion has been a gathering place for scholars and scholars.
From the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China, the three-story pavilion was a place where famous painters Wu chuangchan, Hua Molong, Ren Bonian and Zhu Qizhan painted and met friends.
In 1917, famous Kunqu teachers Chen Fengming, Ding Lansheng, and Fan Yu Bingsheng set up "Pingsheng Opera Club" on the second floor. Kunqu artist Mo shuzhai also set up Kunqu learning classes here to cultivate new Kunqu talents.
In 1952, the Kun Opera peach blossom fan, directed by Ying Yunwei and starred by Shi Xiangyun, was performed in this pavilion.
In the late Qing Dynasty, Shanghai's economy developed rapidly. People of insight in Shanghai realized that the ancient city building had become an obstacle to traffic inside and outside the city and economic development. They demolished the South half of the city in July 1912 and the north half in 1913, and filled the moat with the soil. The construction took two years to complete.
Because the Chenghao road engineering office, the city demolition headquarters, was set up in dajingge, and someone asked to keep dajingge. Later, nine mu of soil was used to fill the trench of dajingyou, so that the wall and dajingge could be preserved.
Since 1992, after three years of hard work, the people's Government of Nanshi District has relocated 31 residents and 9 units at a cost of 9 million yuan. This section of the ancient city wall and Dajing pavilion has been restored and opened as it is for tourists to visit.
In order to promote the art of Shanghai style painting and calligraphy, Shanghai Maritime painting and Calligraphy Academy, founded by president Zhu Penggao in 1985, immediately entered dajingge, and led more than 100 professional painters in Shanghai to study and discuss Shanghai style painting. Over the years, it has successively published more than 30 large-scale picture albums, more than 20 large-scale art exhibitions, more than 100 kinds of wind collecting activities, and traveled all over the country, making dajingge a sea The history of the birthplace of the school of calligraphy and painting can be continued and inherited.
