Nuo dance is very popular in Li Keng Village. It used to be a popular dance in the Yangtze River Valley in ancient China. It was originally a kind of blessing and prayer ceremony, and later gradually developed into a folk dance. There are 40 or 50 kinds of masks in Nuo dance, which are generally carved in wood. The masks are vivid, and the themes of loyalty, treachery, virtue and ignorance, happiness, anger and sadness are all expressed. There are dozens of traditional programs of Nuo dance, such as the creation of heaven and earth, Bangxi Jinchan, double monkey catching lice, etc.
Dragon dance in Li Keng Village
A few days before and after the mid autumn festival every year, hardworking Li Keng people hope that the coming year will be a good omen of good weather, bumper crops, a happy life and a safe life. The mid autumn dragon dance activities will be held in the village.
The mid autumn dragon dance starts at the head of the village. The leader is a respected old man waving a round dragon ball. Behind the dragon ball, more than a dozen men holding paper dragon lanterns dance with them, sometimes high, sometimes low and sometimes circling. There are dozens of red candles inside the paper dragon lantern. From a distance, it looks like a legendary dragon. An old man with several posterity is beating gongs behind Drum.
Every time I go to a house, the host will set off fireworks. It is said that how long the firecrackers can be set off in your house and how long the paper dragon lantern will dance at your door means that your family will be safe and happy in the coming year.
