Ye family garden was built by Ye Yiquan, the son of Ye Chengzhong, a great master in Zhenhai, Zhejiang Province. The second year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty was 1910. After the completion of Jiangwan horse racing hall, ye raised money from the profits and built the garden, mainly for horse racing gamblers to rest and play. The garden was initially built in the spring of 1923, covering an area of 77.636 mu. At that time, it was called night garden.
At the back gate of the garden, the highest point of WoLonggang, there is an artificial waterfall called "Yinhe inverted waterfall". Standing on the bridge of pilian, looking from a distance, the Milky Way hangs upside down, flying straight down. The waterfall pours into the pond where eight immortals cross the sea. Eight immortals, made of rockery, stop in the water, lifelike. The pond is surrounded by crisscrossed Taihu stones, which look like Longyou bear squatting in different shapes. There is a concrete pavilion with four corners and twelve pillars on the hill. During the Anti Japanese war on August 13, general Zhang Zhizhong once commanded the officers and soldiers here to fight against Japan bravely. When people go to the pavilion, the monument will stay forever.
Yejia Garden
Yejia garden is located at 507 Zhengmin Road, beside the original Jiangwan horse racing Hall (now Shanghai first Pulmonary Hospital). The garden was built by Ye Yiquan (Ziheng), the son of Ye Chengzhong, a tycoon in Zhenhai, Zhejiang Province. In 1910, after the Jiangwan horse racing hall was built, ye raised money from the profits and built the garden, mainly for horse racing gamblers to rest and play. The garden was initially built in the spring of 1923, covering an area of 77.636 mu. Inside: billiard room, Yao Palace dance hall, movie course, golf course and other amusement places. At that time, it was called night garden.
Garden History
Shortly after the opening of the garden, the owner of Xiangmao soap company, a British businessman, protested to the municipal authorities on the grounds of noisy voices and disturbing the peace of the house. The city ordered the garden to close for fear of the British.
Ye Ziheng studied at St. John's University in his early years. His professional teacher was Yan Fuqing, then president of the national Shanghai Medical College. When they met in February of the Republic of China, Yan Xiangye talked about the urgent need for the medical college to build a special hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. Deeply moved by his enthusiasm for education, ye donated the park to the national Shanghai Medical College to establish the second internship hospital. After several months of preparation, the hospital was officially established on June 15, 2000. In memory of Ye's father, it was named "Chengzhong lung disease sanatorium", and the first president was Yan's. Ye's kindness was praised by the Ministry of education at that time.
In August of the 26th year of the Republic of China, the Anti Japanese army flourished. In November, Shanghai fell and the garden was occupied by Japanese invaders. Ningci Okamura, the leader of the Japanese invaders, and Tu feiyuan once lived here illegally. In the 29th year of the Republic of China, the Japanese army handed over the park to Japan Hengchan Co., Ltd. for management and opened it to the outside world, which was called "Fujishima Park". However, due to the remote location and sluggish business, the garden was closed in less than a year, and then became the residence of the Japanese secret service.
In September of the same year, the puppet Shanghai special municipal government submitted an application to the Japanese secret service and Dengjun headquarters to take the park back to the government and set up the city's first park, which was rejected by the Japanese side.
In August of the 34th year of the Republic of China, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the garden was taken back by the national Shanghai Medical College. Due to the limitation of funds and other conditions, the former Chengzhong lung disease sanatorium did not resume the treatment of patients until April of the 36th year of the Republic of China.
In May 1949, Shanghai was liberated. In the middle of July, the sanatorium was taken over by the municipal military control committee. In early April 1950, it was under the leadership of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau. In 1959, the sanatorium was changed into the first tuberculosis prevention and control hospital of Shanghai, which is now the first Pulmonary Hospital of Shanghai. Today, the garden is still part of the hospital.
Garden Design
The garden is designed by Japanese with a unique layout. "WoLonggang" and "fuhuling" lie on the north and south sides of the garden, encircling the lakes and ponds in the garden, forming a whole; pavilions, small bridges, flowing water, rocks, caves and gullies are scattered in the arms of the hills and mounds, forming a beautiful landscape.
At the gate of the garden is a cross gate building, in which people can live. The two ends of the building are respectively connected with "WoLonggang" and "fuhuling". The big iron door with black cross pattern downstairs is gorgeous, with wing rooms on both sides, and a barber shop in the south
Close to the north and south sides of the main gate are two ponds, "Ji AI Zhu" and "Qian Long Chi". There is an island in Qianlong pool. A strange stone stands on it, engraved with the words "rhinoceros watching the sky".
Leave the pond, ten steps ahead, is a strange stone into the "small Lushan", standing in the "lotus pond fairy trace" Lotus cluster. On the top of the mountain, there are luxuriant flowers and trees; at the foot of the mountain, the water is as flat as a mirror.
Around the rockery, the mood suddenly brightened. This is the largest island in the park, where the main building was built. Seven bridges, namely, the Qingtao bridge, the Xixiang bridge, the LIULANG bridge, the Jinsuo bridge, the Yudai bridge, the pilian bridge and the Sigong bridge, fly along the two paths of "Chenglu" and "Kangzhuang" on both sides of "YeHu". Some of them are adjacent to the Peony Pavilion on the edge of YeHu lake and the yinyueting mountain. Some of them are opposite to the small rooftop on WoLonggang, connected with the invited moon cave and close to the lakeside rest. Mountains, lakes, bridges and pavilions are naturally distributed, forming an interesting contrast.
When you go to fuhuling, you can have a panoramic view of Yan Shuang Pavilion, Wulingyuan Pavilion, echo Pavilion, Liuli Pavilion, Qiyun cave, Baitai Pavilion, Sigong Pavilion, Tijin Pavilion, Tingquan Pavilion and Yinyue Pavilion. As the main building of the garden, "Yanshuang hall" is a two-story Western-style building, with three corridors in the southeast and west of the ground floor, and circular concrete columns. Back to the mountain and facing the water, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the whole garden by climbing on the platform. She is far away from Wulingyuan, the waterside pavilion by the lake.
To the southeast of yanshuangguan is the second island in the garden, named xiaoluofu. There are lots of trees on the island. You can see the cave along the steps. There is a hexagonal glass pavilion on both sides. Edge of small Luofu eastbound, that is, into the garden of the third island. There is a swing stand on the island, surrounded by a fence, and an open-air platform on the top. You can go up the ladder to enjoy the scenery.
The garden is oval in east-west direction, surrounded by three islands. Island and island, island and ring road are connected by Pavilion and bridge, forming a beautiful scenery of the whole garden. There are many woody flowers and trees in the garden, such as Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Osmanthus fragrans, Magnolia, Cedrus deodara, cypress, cherry blossom, red maple, camphor and bamboo. The mountains are heavy and the waters are clear. The garden was famous for its lakes and rockeries. It was the best private garden at that time.
Since its completion in the 12th year of the Republic of China, the garden has experienced more than 60 cold and hot seasons. Although there have been several wars, some of the mountains, waters, pavilions and platforms in those years are still in good condition; some of them are damaged, but the traces are clear; the whole garden is graceful, beautiful and charming.
