Historical evolution
In ancient Chongqing City, there were 17 gates with nine openings and eight closures, which were built according to the image of "nine palaces and eight trigrams" to show the meaning of "Golden City soup pool". Tongyuan gate is located in the West. It is the only land gate in Chongqing city and the starting point of land road leading to other places, so it is called "Tongyuan".
Tongyuan gate, formerly known as zhenximen, is based on the Jiangzhou city wall built by Hu Liyan, the capital of Shu in the fourth year of Jianxing (226 AD) of the Three Kingdoms, and the stone structure wall built by Peng Daya in the second year of Jiaxi (1238 AD) of the Southern Song Dynasty to fight against the Mongolian cavalry. The existing city wall and gate sites are stone walls built by Dai ding on the basis of the original city wall in the early Hongwu year of Ming Dynasty. With the changes of the times and the turmoil of war, Tongyuanmen city wall has been standing in the wind and rain for more than 600 years, silently witnessing the track of the historical development of Chongqing city.
In 226, the park was built in the fourth year of Jianxing by Liu Chan, the king of Sichuan Province during the Three Kingdoms period. Most of the park's protectors, Li Yan, moved to Jiangzhou (Chongqing) and built a new city. The new city is 16 Li around, which is now connected to the distant gate. Since the completion of Tongyuanmen in Chongqing, there have been two Fierce wars. There are related records in the relief of Tongyuanmen: Zhang Jue sticks to Tongyuanmen. In 1259 ad, after Mongolian Khan mengge died in the fishing City, the Mongolian army returned to the grassland. In 1271, Kublai Khan Jianyuan invaded Lin'an, and the Southern Song Dynasty perished in 1276. In 1278, general Zhang Jue attacked Chongqing and fought the yuan army. Zhang Xianzhong broke through the distant door. In 1644 ad, in the 17th year of Chongzhen of Ming Dynasty, Zhang Xianzhong, the leader of peasant uprising army, led 600000 troops and horses to besiege Chongqing. After six days of fierce fighting, Tongyuanmen was finally conquered and the eastern Sichuan fortress was occupied. Especially in the later war, due to the excessive casualties, the area of Qixinggang outside the gate of Tongyuan became a "mass grave". This is the story of Chongqing described in "Tongyuanmen, gongs and drums, watching the dead buried" in the song of Chongqing. Up to now, there is a saying that "Qixinggang is haunted" when Chongqing people are rowing and drinking.
present situation
Up to now, Tongyuan gate is one of the only two gates in Chongqing, and the Tongyuan gate section of the city wall is also the only section of the city wall site with relatively complete preservation in Chongqing. Chongqing, as a "famous historical and cultural city" approved by the State Council, it is particularly important to rescue and protect historical sites in the new round of urban development and construction. The Yuzhong District Government of Chongqing Municipality approved the project on July 16, 2003, and officially decided to build the Tongyuanmen ancient city wall Heritage Park
Tongyuanmen and the ancient city wall site are located in the Zhongshan section of Qixinggang, Yuzhong District. With the development of history and the expansion of the urban area, the edge of the original Chongqing urban area is now located on the main road of the urban area. Four highways meet here, and there are a lot of traffic and people every day. Residential buildings in different historical periods are built on the city wall. Living in the city and down the city is leisurely. The pass that used to protect the city has now become a place for people to live and work in peace and contentment.
