The old city is divided into inner and outer cities. The ruins of the outer city can be seen vaguely. About 7.5 kilometers around the outer city, its walls are winding and undulating, like hills. The inner city is the imperial city. It is located in the southeast corner of the outer city. It is square in shape, about 1.5 kilometers around. It has a clear outline and is mound like, about 3 meters above the ground. Yuxiu terrace, 15 meters high and covering an area of 500 square meters, is located in the southwest corner of the inner city. It is the altar for emperor Xiandi of Han Dynasty to worship heaven. According to exploration, the cultural layer of the ancient city is about 6 meters thick. The upper layer is Han culture layer, the middle layer is Western Zhou and spring and Autumn Warring States period culture layer, and the lower layer is Erligang culture layer. The cultural layer is rich in connotation. At that time, when Mao Zedong and Luo Zhanglong traveled north to Peiping and passed through Xuchang, they made a special trip here and left a poem "crossing the capital of Wei".
