Shangjian gate is a gate of Xi'an city wall, which is located between Jiefang gate and Shangqin gate of north city wall, with three gates and no tower. Now the city gate is Shangjian Road, and the city gate is Dongpan road of the railway station.

Historical evolution

In the city wall of Xi'an, the northeast area delimited by the north gate Anyuan gate and the East Gate Changle gate was "Mancheng" in the Qing Dynasty. After the revolution of 1911, Shaanxi governor Zhang Fengdan presided over the demolition of Mancheng. In 1927, a new road was opened up in the original Manchu city. At that time, the "new life movement" advocated "four dimensions and eight virtues". Therefore, from east to west, the North-South vertical streets were named after "diligence, thrift, benevolence and virtue" of "four dimensions", namely, Shangqin Road, Shangjian Road, Shangren Road (later changed to Zhongzheng Road, now Jiefang Road) and Shangde road.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1949, three gates were opened at Shangqin Road, Shangjian road and Shangde road of the northern city wall, so they are called Shangqin gate, Shangjian gate and Shangde gate. Shangren Road, the north wall of the city, was opened in 1932 when the Longhai railway was opened to traffic. It was called Shangren gate. Since then, with the name change of Shangren Road, the gate has been renamed zhongzhengmen and jiefangmen.

Shangjian gate is located in the middle of Jiefang gate and Shangqin gate. It is about 200 meters away from Jiefang gate and less than 200 meters away from Shangqin gate. It can be called "sister gate" together with Shangqin gate. The shape of Shangjian gate is similar to that of Shangqin gate and demen gate. There are no city buildings, only three door openings.

Shangjian road is close to the railway station because of the large flow of people. Hotels of various grades and styles and restaurants with their own characteristics can meet the needs of tourists in many aspects.
