Baoqing Temple Pagoda

Baoqing Temple Pagoda is located in the north of Shuyuan gate in the South Gate of Xi'an. Baoqing temple was built in Renshou (601-604), Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty. It was originally located in anrenfang, Daxing city of Sui Dynasty. In Tang Wenzong's time, Baoqing temple was also called Huata Temple because it used five colored bricks as pagodas in the temple. In the Five Dynasties, the temple was destroyed by fire, but the tower survived. In 1451, the temple was built on the site. Feng Congwu lectured in Wanli (1573-1620). In 1723, the monk Wentian rebuilt the temple. The pagoda of Baoqing temple is about 23 meters high and has seven floors. It is hexagonal in plane and contains stone Buddha statues of Wei, Sui and Tang Dynasties. On the east side of the pagoda, a stone tablet was rebuilt in 1451. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the government renovated the pagoda of Baoqing temple. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Shaanxi Province

Baoqing Temple Pagoda is a hexagonal seven storey Pagoda with a height of 23 meters. On the first floor, there are dragon and Phoenix carvings under the eaves. On each side of the second floor, there are white stone statues built by eunuchs such as Zhenguo general, zuojianweimen general and Shangzhu state Liang Yishen in 703. These statues were originally relics of guangzhai temple in guangzhaifang in the South East corner of Chang'an City in Tang Dynasty. They were built on the pagoda during the reign of Jingtai in Ming Dynasty. These statues are very exquisite, showing the elegance and magnificence of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. During the period from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, temples were destroyed, only pagodas remained. There are a large number of stone Buddhist statues in the Central Plains of the pagoda, some of which have been lost overseas and stored in Western museums.
