Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is a large comprehensive provincial museum. Mr. Guo Moruo inscribed the name of the museum in 1962. Heilongjiang Province is the collection of historical relics, art and animal and plant specimens center. At present, there are more than 110000 pieces of various collections. Neolithic jade, Bohai gold-plated bronze Buddha and Golden Buddha in Tang Dynasty, and silk clothing in Jin Dynasty are all high-quality products. Three large fossil skeletons, the late Cretaceous platypus and the Quaternary rhinoceros and mammoth collected from Qinggang County, Heilongjiang Province, are also precious cultural relics.
The main building of Heilongjiang Provincial Museum was built in 1906. It is a European Baroque building and the former site of Russian shopping mall.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Heilongjiang Provincial Museum has become one of the first batch of provincial comprehensive public welfare museums integrating historical relics, natural specimens and artworks. It undertakes the protection, excavation, collection, research and display of historical relics, revolutionary relics, ethnic relics and natural specimens in Heilongjiang Province.
Historical evolution
As early as the early 20th century, with the opening of the Middle East Railway, a group of Russian scholars came to Harbin and proposed the establishment of museums. With the approval of Chinese local authorities, the eastern Provincial Institute of cultural relics was first set up with Chinese local officials as the main body. The former Moscow shopping mall (now the main building of the Provincial Museum) was transformed into the exhibition center of the Institute with Wang Jingchun, a doctor and the railway supervisor of the Eastern Province, as the president. On June 12, 1923, the exhibition center of the eastern Provincial Institute of cultural relics was set up here and opened to the public.
Since then, the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum has changed its name several times: in 1929, it was renamed as the East Province Special Region Research Association (exhibition Institute); in 1931, it was renamed as the East Province special region cultural relics research institute; in 1932, it was renamed as the pseudo Beiman Special Region Cultural Relics Research Institute; in 1936, it was renamed as the pseudo Binjiang provincial cultural relics research institute; in 1937, it was renamed as the Harbin Branch (Museum) of the University of land Sciences; in 1945, it was renamed as the Harbin chorography Museum; in 1946, it was renamed as the Harbin Museum In 1951, China began to take over and renamed Songjiang Provincial Science Museum; in 1953, it was renamed Songjiang Provincial Museum; in 1954, with Songjiang province merged into Heilongjiang Province, Songjiang Provincial Museum and preparatory office of Heilongjiang Provincial Museum merged and became known as Heilong Jiang Provincial Museum. In 1962, Guo Moruo, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, wrote the name of the museum.
The office building was completed in 1978, with a construction area of 1168 square meters and five floors. It is the main office area of the museum. The cultural relics photo studio, cultural relics restoration room, peeling room, pasting room, cultural relics restoration room and reference room are all located in the office building.
In 1983, the collection warehouse was built, with a construction area of 2949 square meters and five floors. It contains all the cultural relics and a large number of Chinese and foreign materials.
On September 30, 2006, the 104th meeting of the Standing Committee of the provincial Party committee decided to "build a museum of high quality and first-class level". Starting in October of the same year, the Provincial Department of culture took the lead, and the provincial development and Reform Commission, the Provincial Department of finance, Harbin municipal government and other relevant departments jointly carried out the site selection of the new provincial museum. Harbin Municipal Planning Bureau, Songbei district government, provincial SASAC and other units inspected, compared and coordinated more than 10 development sites in various districts of Harbin and Jiangbei. The architectural design and Research Institute of Harbin University of technology compiled the site selection report of Heilongjiang Provincial Museum construction project. According to the intention of the report, after the argumentation of well-known and experienced experts in culture, architecture, geology, planning, environmental protection, land and resources in the province, and after carefully listening to the opinions of people from all walks of life, the new museum site was finally determined as the northwest of the intersection of Jingbei road and Harbin Hei road in Yueliangwan (north side of provincial science and Technology Museum) area of Taiyang island in Harbin, covering a total area of 125000 square meters Square meters, with a construction area of nearly 50000 square meters. The new museum in Yueliangwan, Songbei district is under construction and is planned to be completed in 2016.
In the second half of 2015, Heilongjiang Provincial Museum Education Research Center and Heilongjiang Provincial movable cultural relics protection center were established.

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum has a building area of more than 7000 square meters, including 3000 square meters of temporary exhibition and nearly 3000 square meters of warehouse. Heilongjiang historical relics exhibition: launched in 1999, it is an important basic exhibition of the museum. Its content design takes cultural relics as the main body, and combines with text description, charts, paintings, landscapes and other auxiliary exhibits to show the 40000 years of human history and culture in Heilongjiang area, with emphasis on prehistoric culture, Bohai culture and Jinyuan culture. The exhibition covers an area of 1250 square meters, with 935 cultural relics on display, which are divided into "ancient human", "early residents", "dawn of civilization", "stepping into civilization", "Fangguo contending for supremacy", "huhanzhou Dufu haidongshengguo", "liaotaizhou and the Ministry of five countries", "Jinyuan inland", "Kaiyuan Road and shuidada road", "nurgan Dusi", etc“ Heilongjiang general "11 parts, from the primitive society, down to 1911 ad. Most of the exhibits on display are cultural relics unearthed from typical sites in Heilongjiang Province and precious relics handed down from ancient times.
"Natural Exhibition": launched in 1999, the exhibition covers an area of 1250 square meters. It is composed of two parts: ancient animals and modern animals. More than 1200 specimens are on display, including some precious specimens of national class I and II key protected animals, all of which have very important scientific research value. The exhibition of ancient animals covers an area of 480 square meters. Among the key exhibits are large bone fossils of Heilongjiang platypus, rhinoceros and Songhuajiang mammoth, all of which were excavated by Heilongjiang Provincial Museum after the establishment of the people's Republic of China. The exhibition of modern animals covers an area of 750 square meters, with the focus on the special animals of Heilongjiang Province and a small number of rare animals in the world Red Crowned Crane, Siberian tiger. The key exhibits are displayed in ecological box to make the audience feel personally.
"Deng Sanmu Art Exhibition": a collection of works, seals, calligraphy, fans and impressions of Mr. Deng Sanmu, a famous contemporary Chinese calligraphy and engraving artist, with a total of 196 works on display.
Since its opening to the outside world in 1986, the exhibition has undergone three renovations, and the renovated "Deng Sanmu Art Exhibition" will be displayed by high-tech means such as sound, light and electricity.

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum has 108584 collections, including 29341 sets of historical relics and artworks and 79243 sets of natural specimens. There are 83 first-class cultural relics, 898 second-class cultural relics and 4151 third-class cultural relics. Among them, the sources of historical relics and art collections are mainly allocated by the relevant departments at a higher level.
