Development history
The predecessor of Handan museum is Handan exhibition hall. Handan exhibition hall was built on July 25, 1968 and completed on December 26, 1968. It was named Handan exhibition hall "long live the victory of Mao Zedong Thought".
On July 5, 1984, the CPC Handan Municipal Committee decided to set up the Handan museum with the official seal of Handan Museum. It was the same team with the then Handan exhibition hall. The two brands shared the same main building, which was directly under the leadership of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Handan Municipal Committee. The opening of the official seal of the museum marks the official establishment of Handan Museum.
On August 30, 1986, the CPC Handan Municipal Committee decided to cancel the construction of the exhibition hall and only retain the Handan Museum, which was under the leadership of the Handan Municipal Bureau of culture and served as the moral education base for primary and secondary school students and the patriotic education base for Handan.
On September 27, 1987, Handan Museum held a grand opening ceremony.
At the end of 1994, the municipal Party committee invested 2.7 million yuan to carry out the "Qixin project" for the museum and its square, which greatly promoted the development of cultural and Museum undertakings.
Since 1997, Handan Museum has been affiliated to Handan Cultural Relics Bureau.
In 1999, three 188 square meters of cultural relics storehouses were rebuilt, with additional storehouse facilities. All the storehouses were welded and installed with cultural relics storage racks.
From June 2000 to September 2001, the municipal government invested more than 23 million yuan to carry out the reconstruction and expansion project of the museum. At the same time, it also renovated all the basic exhibitions. The newly built 800 square meters cultural relics storehouse has arranged and put on the shelves nearly 2000 cultural relics specimens, which has changed the situation of placing cultural relics specimens on the stalls in the past.
In 2005, Handan museum was jointly awarded the title of "advanced collective of national cultural system" by the Ministry of personnel and the State Administration of cultural relics.
In 2017, it was promoted to the third batch of national first-class museums.

General preface hall
The most splendid thing in Handan history is "Zhao Culture". Therefore, a large screen is designed in the whole preface hall. The center of the screen is the giant picture of "the Longtai site of Zhaowang city in the Warring States period". On both sides are the exhibition title and the preface. The text is in both Chinese and English.
There are three large-scale forged copper murals on the north, East and south walls: one on the front (east wall) is "Hufu riding and shooting"; the murals on both sides are "light of Cishan" and "strength of Jian'an" reflecting the cultural life scene of Cishan (North wall) and the cultural features of Wei and Jin Dynasties (south wall) in Yecheng, the "capital of Six Dynasties".
In the center of the hall, there is a group of three 3-meter-high bronze galloping horses in the original form of the Warring States bronze horses unearthed from tomb 2 of Zhao's mausoleum.
Exhibition of Cishan culture
The northwest hall on the second floor (324 square meters) is equipped with the exhibition of "Cishan culture". The exhibition is divided into four parts: primitive agriculture, primitive handicraft industry, fishing and hunting collection and breeding, primitive art and belief.
On the east wall of the exhibition hall, there is a row of aluminum alloy cabinet, displaying 110 pieces of cultural relics, such as stone grinding plate, stone grinding stick, bracket pottery bowl, chicken bone, carbonized millet, carbonized walnut, etc., with a length of 32 meters. The sand table of "Cishan culture" site is placed in the center of the exhibition hall. In the northwest corner, there is a semi landscape that reflects the life scene of the Cishan people. It reproduces the activities of the Cishan people, such as grinding millet, making pottery, raising chickens, hunting, sowing seeds, etc., and integrates the typical artifacts unearthed from the Cishan site. Cishan culture, represented by millet culture, chicken breeding, primitive pottery making, primitive art and walnut planting, is prominently displayed through cultural relics specimens, words, photos, pictures and large-scale landscapes.

About 200 pieces of cultural relics of the Warring States and Han Dynasties, such as bronze horses, gold medals, jade pieces, chimes, chimes, gold and silver painted Chengyu wine bottles, are displayed. In the northeast corner of the Northeast hall, the eastern horse pit unearthed in Qi village of Handan was restored.

The tomb structure characterized by earth sealing, ticket top and inner wall is restored by artistic techniques.
