brief introduction
On February 14, 1910, the aposteroic vicariate of central Chi Li was separated from the northern vicariate of Zhili. On December 3, 1924, the place where the Episcopal Church is located was renamed as the apostic vicariate of Baoding. On April 11, 1946, the Holy See abolished the missionary system in China and formally established the holy control system, so it established the official Diocese of Baoding, which was subordinate to the general Diocese of Beijing.
Since 1910, the Bishop's Cathedral of Baoding diocese has been located in St. Peter's Cathedral of Baoding. It is located in the center of Baoding City, adjacent to the governor's office of Zhili.
The Anguo diocese was separated in 1923.
Introduction to the church
Baoding Catholic Church was first built in 1901 and expanded in 1910. It is called St. Peter's church. It was built by French missionaries and is one of the famous Catholic churches in Hebei Province. Located in the center of Baoding, the church is a typical Romanesque building. To the south is the ancient lotus pond, to the East is the famous Buddhist temple dacige, and to the west is Zhili governor's office. The church is 54.3 meters long, 17.6 meters wide and 20.38 meters high. It is magnificent and elegant, and can accommodate more than 1000 people.
There are 14 towering red columns supporting the roof of the church and 12 stone columns on the altar, symbolizing the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ. There are 14 beautiful biblical portraits hanging on the walls on both sides, describing the story of Jesus Christ who was crucified after suffering. The vast dome and extended space make the church solemn and sacred.
During the cultural revolution, the Catholic Church was severely damaged and used for other purposes, and religious activities were forced to stop. In 1980, the government implemented the religious policy, and the church was returned to the church. After renovation, it was officially opened in 1981. The church is the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Baoding.
