Hua Shikui's former residence is located at 389 Shengli road. Built in the early years of the Republic of China, with a total area of 448.16 square meters, it is an Italian style building with three floors above the ground and one floor below the ground. It is one of the 16 peaked buildings in the Italian Concession at that time. The roof is corrugated plate structure, sloping tile roof, attic with dormer window, which is magnificent.

Personage introduction

Hua Shikui (1863-1941), a calligrapher, was named Qichen and Bichen. Han nationality is one of the "eight great families" in Tianjin. His ancestral home was Wuxi, Jiangsu, and later he moved to Tianjin. His calligraphy takes the bone of Yan's character as the starting point, which is magnificent and powerful. The handwritten five character plaque of "Tianjin quanyechang" is 1 meter in size and majestic, which can be called its masterpiece. The calligraphic works range from small regular script to the list of books over a diameter of one foot. Their structures are dignified and relaxed, and they are more vigorous and straight in their later years. It is the first of the four great calligraphers in Modern Tianjin.

One plaque and two questions

When Hua Shikui wrote "Tianjin quanyechang", it was in 1928. At that time, the Chinese family no longer lived in the east gate. Since Xuantong abdicated, Hua Shikui was renting and buying a small foreign-style building.

According to Hua Zexian, a descendant of the Chinese family, Hua Shikui was teaching his disciple Dong Fengtong and himself about sun Guoting's "Book Manual" on the day when Xu Sheng went upstairs and said: Gao Xingqiao, the comprador of German merchants, sent someone to write the plaque of "quanyechang" and asked to see the master. I don't know whether he will see it or not. After hearing this, Hua Shikui pondered slightly and said faintly, "please! "To this day, the faint request is still particularly harsh, because according to the custom at that time, all those who come to the door to ask for words can negotiate the price with the person in charge of the accounting room. Hua Shikui never meets the guests who ask for a plaque. However, due to Gao Xingqiao's extraordinary influence in Tianjin, Hua Shikui had to break this rule.

When Gao Xingqiao's "emissary" came into the study and explained the size of the plaque, he asked someone to bring 300 pieces of Xianyang tablet and said politely, "it's just a touch of pen, but it's not a compliment. I'll give you a tea ear as a gift. "Hua Shikui gave a cool smile and nodded down.

But a few days later, Hua Shikui finished writing the plaque of "quanyechang", and the "messenger" arrived unexpectedly. He sent another 200 yuan to foreign countries and said with a look of embarrassment: "because of a moment's neglect, it almost caused a big accident. I'm sorry to trouble Mr. Hua to write the word" Tianjin "for" quanyechang ". "Hua Shikui was very upset after hearing this, so he ordered his servant Xu Sheng to immediately spread paper and ink and write" Tianjin "with a pen.

Today, the original plaque of "Tianjin Quanye field" is stored on the top floor of the mall, which has been used as a national cultural relic for people to enjoy.

Better than being president of the Republic of China

When Hua Shikui was the cabinet secretary, he and Xu Shichang paid homage to Qi Shichang. Qi Shichang had a young son in his later years. He loved it very much before he died. He asked Hua Shikui and Xu Shichang to take care of him later.

In 1930, Qi Shichang's "young son" came to Tianjin from his hometown for help. Hua Shikui was grateful for his teacher's kindness and gave him 200 yuan to go abroad. He went to Xu Shichang's house to help him. But Xu Shichang said to Hua Shikui, "you sell words every day this year, and I sell words, but I don't make much money. Well, I'll give him half of the money you gave him. "After that, Hua Shikui gave him another 100 yuan, which he said to Xu Shichang:" you should practice calligraphy well. If you practice calligraphy well, it's better than being a president of the Republic of China! "In addition, Hua Shikui has another thing to say. When the puppet Manchukuo was first established, Puyi wanted to pull Hua Shikui into the water through the relationship between Luo Zhenyu and Hua Shikui. Luo Zhenyu once solicited talents for Puyi. Because of his intimate relationship with Hua Shikui, he went to the Chinese family repeatedly to persuade Hua Shikui to assist Puyi. At last, Hua Shikui hindered his old friends and said to Luo Zhenyu: "I'm sick of foot and can't walk. I don't want to go. Hua Shikui always had a deep feeling for the Qing Dynasty. He refused to cut his hair and wear clothes all his life. No matter at home or outside, he always wore long robes, mandarin jacket, cloth socks, satin shoes with two faces and a braid at the back of his head. Although Hua Shikui was able to clean up his family in his whole life, he was not as ambitious as Yuan Shikai and Xu Shichang in character and integrity. He was not only an old minister of the Qing Dynasty, but also the president of the Republic of China. It is not like Zheng Xiaoxu and Luo Zhenyu, who instigated Puyi to take refuge in Japan in order to restore the foundation of the Qing Dynasty. Therefore, throughout the ups and downs of his official life, his character and distinct national consciousness are praiseworthy.

In the feudal dynasty, there was a mistake in the repertoire. I don't know what disaster it would cause. If the eunuch has passed on the wrong message, or has heard the wrong thing himself, that's very bad. Accompany you like a tiger! The more Hua Shikui thinks about it, the more scared he is. It's better to resign as soon as possible and go back to his hometown. So Hua Shikui went back to his hometown.
