A man-made river (now Chang River) was built in the upstream of Gaoliang River to store and lead Yuquan mountain water as a lake. Guangyuan sluice is the head sluice in the upstream of Tonghui river. In the Ming Dynasty, in order to make the emperor's and Empress's dragon boat sail directly to the western suburbs without being blocked by the Guangyuan gate, a river branch was dug on the South Bank of the Nanchang River to facilitate the passage of large ships. The Zizhuyuan garden site was the "other port" of the River branch that bypassed the Royal boat at that time. In the fifth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1577), Zizhuyuan temple was built on the North Bank of the lake as the lower courtyard of Wanshou temple. In the Qing Dynasty, there were palaces and docks in this area. The royal family went to the Summer Palace by boat. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, luhuadu, commonly known as "little Suzhou luhuadang", was built in the south of the Yangtze River. The lower courtyard of Wanshou temple, built in the Ming Dynasty on the South Bank of the Yangtze River, was renamed "Zizhu Temple". In addition, in the west side of the temple, the original plaque is "Fu Yin Zi Zhu Yuan". Zizhuyuan got its name from this. It was rebuilt during the reign of Guangxu. After the 1911 Revolution, the above landscape was basically abandoned. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, comprehensive renovation was carried out. From March to July 1953, the project of digging lakes and piling mountains, repairing gates and building roads around lakes was completed. In 1954, the construction of park greening and public facilities was completed and opened to the outside world, named Zizhuyuan Park. Since then, the second water source "Shuangzi canal" has been opened up, the Zizhu lake has been deeply excavated again, and new landscapes have been gradually built.
