In 1407, Zheng He successfully returned from his first trip to the West. Zhu Di, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, built the "Longjiang Imperial Palace" at the foot of lion mountain to thank the imperial concubine for protecting the sea. In 1416, Zhu Di wrote the article "imperial stele of Hongren Puji Tianfei Palace". According to records, "there are seventy-nine halls and houses in front of and behind Tianfei palace, and the outer walls around it are more than 181 Zhang.". After Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty, Tianfei palace was destroyed many times, and the former magnificence disappeared. In the winter of 1937, when the Japanese army occupied Nanjing City, Tianfei palace was destroyed again in the war, and only the stele of Tianfei palace was left. In 1996, when the site of Jinghai temple was expanded, the stele of Tianfei palace was moved to Jinghai temple. The pedestal and forehead of Tianfei palace stele are exquisitely carved and beautifully calligraphed. It is the largest extant stone carving of Zheng He's voyages to the West in China. It is also the best extant Mazu stele. It is the highest standard cultural heritage of Mazu culture in the world. It has important historical and cultural value and precious calligraphy art value. Jinghai temple was built in the ninth year of Yongle (1411) of the Ming Dynasty. It was built by Zhu Di, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, to commemorate the successful return of Zheng He and other navigators from their voyages to the west, and was granted "Jinghai", which means the tranquility of the four seas. On August 29, 1842, the first unequal treaty in modern Chinese history, the Sino British Treaty of Nanjing, was signed on board the British warship kanghuali on the Xiaguan river. Jinghai temple not only wrote down the ancient civilization and glory of our country, but also recorded the modern backwardness and shame. Gujinghai Temple no longer exists after the war. The original exhibition hall of historical materials of the Treaty of Nanjing was built in 1988, expanded in 1996, and combined with the new hall expanded again in 2005 as the memorial hall of Jinghai temple. In 1997, the memorial hall was named as the first batch of "national patriotic education demonstration base" by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee. There are Zheng He memorial hall, negotiation scene exhibition hall, Mazu culture exhibition and the main display of Jinghai vicissitudes. There are also sansuyan, Tianfei palace stele and its base, which were known as one of the "48 scenes of Jinling" in the early Qing Dynasty, and "rebuilding Jinghai Temple stele and inscription" written by Xu Jialu, vice chairman of the National People's Congress. The newly built Tianfei palace in 2005 is composed of two axis courtyards. At present, the first phase of the project covers an area of 2668 square meters. The main buildings include Tianfei hall, Guanyin hall, stele Pavilion, Mazu culture exhibition, East and West Wing rooms and auxiliary hall. It is an important historical legacy of China's Maritime Silk Road and Zheng He's voyages to the West.
Tianfei palace was built in the fifth year of Yongle (1407) of Ming Dynasty, which is known as Longjiang Tianfei palace in history. After Zheng He returned home from his first trip to the Western Ocean, he asked the imperial court to build it because of the peace of the sea. Zheng He made a special trip to Longjiang Tianfei palace to worship Mazu before and after his six voyages to the West. Tianfei palace has been repaired for many times since liberation. It covers an area of 5000 square meters and is composed of two axis courtyards. Every year on the birthday of Mazu (March 23 of the lunar calendar), the folk custom of catching up temple fairs in Nanjing continues to this day.

historical origin
Nanjing Tianfei palace is located at the foot of Shizishan, Gulou District, Nanjing, beside Jianning road. It was built in Yongle period of Ming Dynasty. During the period from the Taiping Rebellion to the Anti Japanese War of the Republic of China, the Imperial Palace in Nanjing was destroyed repeatedly. Since July 2004, to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Zheng He's voyages to the west, Nanjing has spent a lot of money on reconstruction and opening up.
Nanjing is the source, starting and ending point of Zheng He's voyages to the West and the place where materials and personnel gathered. In the 5th century, Zheng He's voyages to the West made Nanjing the shipbuilding base and the departure port of Zheng He's voyages, which witnessed the final glory of the maritime Silk Road.
In recognition of his mission to the west, Emperor Yongle built Tianfei palace, Jinghai temple and longjiangbao shipyard, a large-scale official shipbuilding base for his voyage to the West.
Tianfei, or Mazu, is known as the marine protection god of the Chinese nation.
According to historical records, in 1407 A.D., Zheng He went to the West for the first time and returned home smoothly. In order to thank the imperial concubine for protecting the sea, Zhu Di, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, granted the imperial concubine the title of "protecting the country, protecting the people, taking care of Hongren and Puji imperial concubine", built the imperial concubine palace, and wrote the inscription in person. After that, Zheng He made a special trip to Tianfei palace to worship Mazu before his six voyages to the West.
Completed in 2004, Nanjing Tianfei palace covers an area of about 17000 square meters. It adopts the official style of Ming Dynasty, and is mainly composed of East-West two axis courtyards. The West axis is composed of two entrance courtyards with Tianfei palace hall, Yuhuangge and two side halls. The East axis is composed of two entrance courtyards with Guanyin hall and two side halls.
After the completion of the project, it will be open to the public for a visit, and the admission fee will be 10 yuan.
Nanjing Tianfei palace has deepened the cultural sense of historical identity on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and has become one of the most attractive places for Taiwan compatriots in Nanjing.
