Hongmen rock

Hongmenyan is the north gate of Wutai Mountain. It is 2500 meters above sea level. It is the only way from Datong to Wutai Mountain and the only way to the top of Beitai, the highest peak in North China. Most people who come to Wutai mountain can reach the highest place, because this is the closest place to the top of Beitai mountain. It's about 3 kilometers from here to dongtaiding and 13 kilometers to beitaiding. It's about an hour's journey from here to beitaiding. There is a pure white memorial archway at Hongmenyan, with four golden characters "cool resort" written on it. There are two stone tablets beside the memorial archway, one with three characters "Hongmenyan", the other with the direction and distance from Hongmenyan to Taihuai Town, dongtaiding and beitaiding. Standing here, you can see the top of the North platform from afar, and you can overlook the mountain scenery from below. The sight is very good and the scenery is pleasant.
