The official residence of the Prime Minister of Manchukuo was designed and built for Zhang Jinghui, the second prime minister of Manchukuo. It was built to the west of West Wanshou Street (now West democracy Street) and to the south of the Ministry of foreign affairs. It is the second largest official residence building after the Guandong army commander's residence, and the only one with traces of traditional Chinese architecture in all official residence buildings. The construction of the building started in 1936 and was completed the next year. The total construction area is 1790 square meters, and the project cost is 147000 yuan. There are two floors above the ground and one floor underground.
The house covers an area of about 10 hectares and consists of a brown mansion and an east garden. The main building is 2600 square meters, with large conference hall, front office, reception, catering and other service rooms on the first floor, Zhang Jinghui's office and family living area on the second floor, and guard building on the southeast corner. The east garden is composed of pavilions, pools and other garden sketches.
The whole building adopts the traditional composition method of western modern architecture, emphasizing a main composition element, with high tower as the key constraint factor, with extended space on both sides, and its steep roof is very similar to the pseudo Ministry of communications office building.
The top of the tower is covered with a four corner zanjianding with glass animal ornaments on the ridge. The hall is a two-story hall with a ring gallery. The entrance steps and side porches are similar to some official residences at that time. The glazed tiles on the building are exquisitely made, and even the vent holes on the sloping roof are exquisitely shaped.
Another prominent feature of the building is that the color of the glazed tiles on the roof is very close to the color of the tiles, which makes the overall sense of the building very strong. The building is another building which uses a lot of glass components after the pseudo office building of the Ministry of communications.
The cast copper wall lamps on both sides of the building's porch actually have the shape of dragon, which is unimaginable in the traditional Chinese concept of monarch and minister. The form of entrance porch is lack of corresponding relationship with the building, and the height is slightly higher, which affects the proportion of the building.
The building covers an area of nearly 20000 square meters. In the southwest corner of the courtyard, there are two secretarial residences and ancillary buildings. Like the crenels of the Great Wall, the upper part of the wall of the whole courtyard has become its remarkable feature.
