Pingshi town is located in the southern foot of Lingnan mountains, the upper reaches of Wujiang River, the north of Guangdong Province, and adjacent to Yizhang County, Hunan Province. It is a tourist town and an economic, cultural and financial center in the north of Lechang City. In history, it was once known as one of the eight important towns in Guangdong, known as "the north gate of Guangdong and the first town in Lingnan".
The total population of the town is 74368 (in 2017), including 4 neighborhood committees, 25 village committees and 259 villager groups. There are 7762 households with 33919 people. The cultivated land area is 30300 mu, including more than 10000 mu of dry land.
Pingshi town is located in the northernmost part of Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, at the south foot of Lingnan mountains and the upper reaches of Wujiang River. It is 70 km away from Chenzhou City in Hunan Province in the north, adjacent to Yizhang County in Hunan Province, and 33.75 km away from Lechang City. The total area of the town is 271.53 square kilometers (2017), and the urban area is 6.9 square kilometers. Evolution of organizational system
Pingshi Town, with a total population of 74368 (in 2017), is a tourist town. It is also the political, economic, cultural, health, education, business and financial center in the north of Lechang City. It is the first town in Lingnan and the north gate of Guangdong. It is a transit station between Guangdong and the mainland and a national pilot development area in the north of Guangdong.
In the 17th year of Liang Tianjian, the county was divided into Lianghua county and Pingshi County in the north, so there was an administrative system. In the 12th year of kaihuang of Sui Dynasty, Pingshi County merged with Lianghua county.
In modern times, Pingshi township or Pingshi district and Pingshi people's commune were established.
On June 20, 1959, the original Pingshi people's commune was divided into Pingshi commune and Pingshi town.
In April 1964, Sanxi was set up from Pingshi commune, which is now Sanxi town (with an area of 113.3 square kilometers).
In 1977, luojiadu was set up from Pingshi town.
In April 2002, the original luojiadu town was abolished, and five village committees, namely, Tiantou, Hefeng, luojiadu, changpailiao and Tiantang, were put under the jurisdiction of Pingshi town.
In July 2003, Laopingshi town was abolished and 15 village committees and one neighborhood committee under its jurisdiction were transferred to Pingshi town.
It has jurisdiction over 25 village committees and 4 neighborhood committees.
In history, it was once known as one of the eight important towns in Guangdong. At the beginning, all the seven brother towns had been set up as cities one after another. Only Pingshi town was still an established town.
Pingshi town was approved as an established town by Guangdong Provincial Government in 1965.
In 1998, it was listed as one of the seven pilot towns for planning, construction and management of small towns by the Provincial Construction Commission.
In 2001, it was identified as a key development center town by Lechang municipal Party committee and government.
In February 2003, it was listed in the second batch of comprehensive pilot towns for the healthy development of small towns by the Provincial Planning Commission.
In 2004, it was listed as a national economic comprehensive development demonstration town.
At present, there are 158 units stationed in Ping, including 29 central and provincial units, 83 municipal units in Shaoguan and Lechang, 61 township enterprises and institutions, and 1340 individual and private enterprises.

Traffic situation
Pingshi town is located in the traffic fortress and the traffic hub in the north of Guangdong Province. There are three railway stations in the town. The Beijing Guangzhou railway runs through the whole town from north to south. The first station of Beijing Guangzhou railway entering Guangdong is Pingshi station, which is a secondary station.
Pingshi North freight station is a modern freight station with 19 tracks. It is the largest railway operation yard in northern Guangdong and one of the railway rear and comprehensive freight operation yards in Guangdong Province.
Nanling railway branch line starts from the town, and raw coal from Yizhang and Linwu counties of Chenzhou City in Hunan Province is transported from Pingshi town to all parts of Guangdong Province.
There are three bridges in the town, Pingshi bridge, pingru bridge and Pingmei bridge.
Yueguang expressway, Beijing Hong Kong Macao expressway, Beijing Guangzhou railway, 107 national highway, 248 provincial highway and pingru highway pass through the town respectively. The township roads of more than 10 towns in the north of Lechang City start from Pingshi Town, and the transit points of counties and cities such as Yizhang, Linwu, Rucheng and Lianzhou in Hunan Province. Railways and highways crisscross in the area under the jurisdiction of the town, forming a transportation network extending in all directions, becoming an important transportation hub in northern Guangdong.

Pingshi town is the political, economic, cultural, health, educational, commercial and financial center in the north of Lechang City.

There are six agricultural markets and one inter provincial trade market in the town. It is adjacent to Yizhang, Linwu and Rucheng counties in Hunan Province. In the north of Lechang City, the merchants gather in Pingshi town. There are more than 2000 shops in the town. It is an important border trade town in the north of Guangdong Province. It is also an important distribution center for materials from inside and outside the province and from south to north. It is another "Golden Triangle" in Guangdong Province.
Industry
Pingshi town is an important industrial base of Lechang City, which is based on its unique geographical location, convenient transportation and superior investment environment. The industrial chain focusing on electric power, zirconium industry, food industry and textile processing has gradually formed. Pingshi B power plant, zirconium oxychloride plant, Songzhen plant, storage battery plant and other 10 large and medium-sized private enterprises have formed leading industries.
The town has a thermal power plant with an installed capacity of 850000 kilowatts and a small hydropower station with an installed capacity of 13650 kilowatts. With an installed power capacity of over 1 million kilowatts, the town is the first power town in Guangdong Province.
Pingshi power plant B Pingshi Power Plant Co., Ltd. (plant B) is the largest foreign investment project in Shaoguan. It is a private enterprise invested and constructed by Hong Kong enterprises. It is located in Hefeng area about 4.5km south of Pingshi town and close to Wujiang River in the northeast.
Shaoguan zirconium oxychloride plant is the largest zirconium oxychloride production enterprise in China, which is located beside 107 National Road in Pingshi town.
Songzhen Factory Guangdong Songzhen Health Products Co., Ltd. is located in baishaqiao, Pingshi town. Songzhen health products are key health products at home and abroad.
Xingyu battery factory Pingshi Xingyu battery factory is located in baijiadong village, Pingshi town.
There are 25 town run enterprises in the town, mainly in small hydropower, textile, construction and other industries. (specifically, there are 1. Zhuan Kuang power station; 2. Wujiang River is rich in mineral resources, land, forest and other natural resources, which can meet the water demand of medium-sized cities.
Within 50 kilometers around the town, there are abundant reserves of coal, iron ore, stone, brazing, zinc, wood, etc., and there are still some rare metals to be developed.
