brief introduction
Tai O fishing port is the first fishing village to be developed on the island. Because it is divided into two places by three streams, the vertical and horizontal waterways and water huts make up the unique feelings of water town here, so it is called Venice of Hong Kong. In particular, the "shack" built on the water is also a major feature here. There are about 2000 residents, mainly Hakkas. Tai O used to be a major fishing port and garrison town. For more than a hundred years, it has been a salt producing area in Hong Kong. Now it is still a quiet fishing village. In the past, it used to rely on the cross river crossing, and the residents shuttled back and forth in small boats. There are many temples in Da'ao city. The temple has been established since Ming Dynasty. There is a bronze bell cast in 1739 in the temple, and the roof is decorated with exquisite pottery. Besides Guandi temple, there are also Huatuo and the statue of God of wealth. The ancient temple of Yanghou was built to commemorate the king of Yanghou. After repair, it is more solemn. Geography
Tai O is located in Shanxi, Lantau Island, Hongkong new territories. (Chinese mainland is known as Tai ho Island, regarded as part of Wanshan Islands), located in the southwest of Hongkong. It is the largest island in Hongkong, with an area of 146.75 square kilometers, 84% larger than Hongkong Island, and 235 small islands nearby, covering 975.1 square kilometers, accounting for 92% of Hongkong area. Most of Lantau Island belongs to the outlying island area, but the northern part of Lantau Island, including yin'ao, Penny's Bay, and KAP Shui Mun, belongs to the Tsuen Wan District administratively.
In the past, due to inconvenient transportation and being far away from the urban areas, many lands on Lantau Island were undeveloped. However, it has become a good place for Hong Kong people to go on holiday.
In the main part of Lantau Island, a waterway diverges in the West and North, and Tai O island is just above the fork. The terrain of Tai O is unique, most of which are located on the river bank, and the two banks are connected by two pedestrian bridges. The island is uninhabited to the West and north of the South China Sea.
With rolling hills, the new territories is the highest place in the region. Dawu Mountain, 957 meters above sea level, is the highest peak. The mountains are continuous, and the farmland is suitable for many plants. The new territories used to be dominated by agricultural production. Due to the development of Hong Kong's economy, many new towns have emerged in the new territories. Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan are two of the largest industrial satellite towns in Hong Kong. The public housing projects in Tsuen Wan and Sha Tin, as well as the construction and development of new towns such as Tai Po, Sheung Shui, Tuen Mun, Fanling and Yuen Long, are rapidly changing the face of the new territories. In the past, the countryside is now full of high-rise buildings, which has gradually become a new and lively industrial town. Kwai Chung container terminal, located in the northwest, is the shipping center of Hong Kong. It was officially opened in 1972 and has rapidly expanded into a world-famous container terminal. Scenic spots include Lantau, Shatin Racecourse, Penfold Park and Saigon peninsula.
climate
In terms of climate, Hong Kong is located in the subtropical zone of the northern hemisphere, with its back to the Eurasian continent and facing the Pacific Ocean, forming a marine subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. At the end of each year, the high pressure accumulated in Siberia blows dry and cold air to the low pressure Pacific Ocean, becoming the winter monsoon in Hong Kong. In the middle of the year, high pressure was formed in the Pacific Ocean, and this summer monsoon was blowing towards Eurasia, bringing rainy and humid summer to Hong Kong.
In short, spring is from March to April every year, with mild and humid climate, fog and low visibility. May to August is summer, the temperature is hot, humid and the rainfall is high. September to October is autumn, generally cool and sunny. Summer and autumn are typhoon seasons. Hong Kong is hit by tropical cyclones. November to February of the next year is winter, cool and dry, with occasional frost on the highlands.
In addition, the high-rise buildings in the urban area of Hong Kong are concentrated and densely populated, and the microclimate is easy to produce heat island effect, resulting in obvious temperature difference between the urban and suburban areas. Urban areas with high population density also make it difficult to disperse suspended particles in the air. The hot and hazy days in the urban area of Hong Kong are becoming longer and longer.
history
The Yantian site, an archaeological site near DAAO, dates back to the stone age, but the fixed and verifiable human tribe has only three centuries of history. Some rumors that can not be confirmed are as follows: first, Tai O is a base for many smuggling and piracy operations; second, Yongkou is able to defend against storms; third, there is a hidden place here. Nearby, a fortress was built as early as 1729 to protect shipping on the Pearl River. It is often seen. Chinese mainland smuggled guns, tobacco or drugs and smuggled people into and out of China.
In the 16th century, the flenquis (today's Portuguese) arrived in the southern coast of China. They occupied the area of Da'ao to build a supply base. Later, they were repulsed by the Ming army in the area of Tuen Mun, which is known as the Tuen Mun naval battle. At that time, the stronghold was called "fan GUI Tang" by the residents (fan GUI is a Cantonese word, which used to refer to Western or Westerners), and has been preserved to this day.
When the British came to Hong Kong, Tai O was called DanJia village. After the civil war and the post-war period, the Great Australian became the primary foothold of illegal immigrants from Chinese mainland. Among the immigrants, Han people generally stay in Tai o. At the same time, Tai O also attracted other ethnic groups in Hong Kong, including the crane people and Hakkas.
In recent years, the fishing industry in Tai O has been declining. It is difficult for villagers to make a living by fishing alone, so they turn to seafood processing. Tai O is also famous for this. There is only one public school left on the island, and most young people will leave Tai O when they grow up.
On July 2, 2000, a fire destroyed more than 90 huts in Sha Tsai Mian, Tai O, which was a great disaster for the fishing area. Relevant parties are committed to restoring the old view of Tai o. Most of the existing are temporary barracks and dilapidated shacks.
characteristic
Tai O is known as "Venice of Hong Kong". Tai O is located on an outlying island, far away from the bustling urban area, and less affected by urbanization, so it still retains the fishing village style of early Hong Kong. Tai O has beautiful scenery. The elevated houses on the waterways, the shacks, are the residences of fishermen. Rivers and streams are interspersed in rows of ancient shack buildings in an orderly way, which sets off the unique style of fishing village.
Tai O is famous for its traditional salted fish, shrimp sauce and fish maw. When you set foot in DAAO, tourists will feel the strong seafood flavor.
One of the characteristics of Tai O is that there was a crossing between Tai O and Lantau Island, but it has been eliminated.
After the decline of the fishing industry in Tai O, it became famous for seafood processing. You can smell salted fish and shrimp sauce when you step here. You can see that both sides of the central street are full of seafood. Don't miss buying seafood here.
Cheung Sha beach on Lantau Island stretches 3200 meters and is one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong.
There are many invincible sea view restaurants on the beach of Changsha. Most of the guests are foreign tourists, and the variety of barbecue is the most. What is worth praising is the dessert, which is similar to the honeycomb cake. It is too fragrant to speak.
If you are interested, you can go camping in Bay Bay Bay nearby. The campsite has facilities such as picnic tables, chairs, barbecue ovens and toilets, which are open to tourists free of charge.
Fisheries
DAAO is located at the mouth of the Pearl River. The Bay waterway is a natural haven and a base for fishermen. According to a 1903 stele in Guandi temple, there were three types of fishing boats at that time: fishing boat, net boat and fishing boat. The fishermen's catch is sold by the fishermen's boats. The nearby sea area is rich in yellow croaker, goby, mackerel and cangyu. The fishermen used big tail boats to catch yellow flowers and white foxtail. In the early 1950s, there were as many as 300 big tailed boats due to the abundant fishing. Later, the British Hong Kong government promoted the motorization of fisheries. The number of motorized fishing boats increased from 116 in the 1940s to 1747 in the 1960s. However, the main catch in Tai O was yellow croaker, while the production of yellow croaker in Hong Kong waters began to decline from 1954 to 1958, which was less than half of that in 1954. As a result, the overall fishery in Tai O was hit and began to decline in the late 1950s. In the 1960s, the Huanghua fishing season began to disappear, and the fishing industry in tai'ao continued to develop
