Also known as "Nanyang building", the patriotic overseas Chinese Jian Zhaonan and Jian Zhaoqiang brothers invested in the construction in 1917 and completed it in 1921. There are two buildings in front of and behind the building, with magnificent appearance. At the end of 1926, the national government moved from Guangzhou to Hankou and began to work here on New Year's day in 1927. Song Qingling, Deng Yanda, Tang Shengzhi, Tan Yankai, Wu Yuzhang, Lin Boqu, Dong Biwu, Yun Daiying, Mao Zedong, Tan Pingshan, and Su Zhaozheng all worked or worked here. From March 10 to 17, 1927, the Kuomintang held the Third Plenary Session of the second Central Committee in the conference hall on the third floor of the building. The meeting insisted on the political stand of anti imperialism and anti feudalism, resolutely carried out Sun Yat Sen's three major policies of "uniting Russia, the Communist Party and supporting agriculture and industry", and resolutely fought against Chiang Kai Shek's military dictatorship. More than 20 resolutions were passed at the meeting, including the case of unifying the leading organs of the party, the Declaration on peasants, and the regulations on punishing local tyrants and evil gentry. The site is now well preserved, with a memorial hall on the third floor. Now it is a key cultural relic protection unit in China.
Former site of Wuhan National Government
Wuhan National Government is located in Jianghan District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. In October 1926, the Northern Expedition army occupied Wuchang, and the center of national revolution shifted from the Pearl River basin to the Yangtze River Basin. In December of the same year, a group of executive members of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang and members of the national government arrived in Wuhan.
Members of the central party department and the national government who arrived in Wuhan set up an "Interim joint meeting of the executive members of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang and members of the national government" to exercise the highest authority of the Central Committee, and then selected Nanyang building. The establishment of the joint conference marked that the national government moved its capital from Guangzhou to Wuhan. Wuhan National government named Wuhan as "Jingzhao district" with Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang as a big area. The national government also organized and managed the Jingzhao District Committee, with nine members including the ministers of finance, foreign affairs and transportation, the mayors of Hankou and Wuchang, and the commander of the defense forces.
On November 20, 1996, the former site of Wuhan National Government was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit. In September 2016, it was selected into the "first batch of Chinese 20th century architectural heritage" list.
