Plum blossom cottage

Located in Liuhe Park, Taicang, it is the studio of famous contemporary Master Zhu Qizhan who studied painting in his youth. It was built before the Anti Japanese war. After the completion of the thatched cottage, more than ten artists, such as Qi Baishi, Shen Yinmo, Huang Binhong and Pan Tianshou, have composed poems and paintings for "meihuacaotang".

Zhu Qizhan (1892-1996), known as Zengjun, is also known as Erzai Laomin. He lived in meihuacaotang, pisiju and so on. He is a famous birthday painter in China and a great master of painting. He once served as executive director of China Artists Association, China Calligraphers Association, Shanghai Artists Association, and consultant of Xiling Seal printing society.

Life of the characters

Zhu Qizhan studied painting since he was a child. He went to Japan twice to study oil painting and investigate art education. At the age of 27, his oil painting participated in the first Suzhou Art painting competition. After the founding of new China, Zhu Qizhan was employed as a librarian of Shanghai Municipal Museum of culture and history, and later as a painter of Shanghai Academy of Chinese painting. Since then, he has been to other places for many times to sketch, create, and hold personal art exhibitions. He has become a famous master of Chinese painting in China. Zhu Qizhan's painting style is old and spicy, and he has his own style. His works are collected by many museums and art museums at home and abroad. In 1995, Shanghai municipal government built Zhu Qizhan Art Museum in Hongkou office. Zhu Qizhan loved plum blossom all his life. During the Anti Japanese War, the old house in Liuhe was burned by the Japanese army, and the new house was full of holes. So the remaining houses of the old house were demolished, and the new house was repaired. The Japanese bomb pit was dug into the "iron egg pool". Plum blossoms were planted all over the slope of the pool. The title of the house was "plum blossom thatched cottage", and it was called "master of plum blossom thatched cottage". In 1936, Zhu Qizhan invited Pan Tianshou, Jiang Danshu, Jin Weijian, Wu Fuzhi, and Zhang Zhenduo to Liuhe plum blossom thatched cottage to gather, recite poems, paint, and discuss arts. After a few days of gathering, Zhu Qizhan separated. Later, he collected the pictures of plum blossom thatched cottage by Wang Yiting, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Wu Hufan, he Tianjian, Ding Fuzhi and so on. In 1991, when Zhu Qizhan was 100 years old, his hometown government rebuilt the "plum blossom thatched cottage" in his former residence, which is divided into five rooms, including exhibition hall, studio and reception hall. For this reason, Zhu Qizhan presented six masterpieces to Meihua cottage, such as "spring breeze grows purple orchid bud", "old stem grows like iron", "streams and mountains after rain".
