Taicang Port
Taicang port is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the open coastal areas. With 38.8 km of the Yangtze River coastline and - 12.5 m deep-water channel, it is the only natural harbor in Jiangsu, rare in China and rare in the world. Since the reform and opening up, especially since the beginning of the new century, in order to ensure the development of the Yangtze River Delta and Jiangsu open economy, the state and Jiangsu Province attach great importance to Taicang port. The state has positioned Taicang port as an important part of Shanghai international shipping center, a container trunk port, and a river sea transport transit hub port. The Jiangsu provincial Party committee and government require Taicang port to be built into a container transport hub along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province It is also known as "the first foreign trade port in Jiangsu".

Historical evolution
Taicang port, known as Liujiagang in ancient times, originated in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. In the Yuan Dynasty, the government carried out the transportation of grain to the north, built large berths along the Liujiagang line, and established maritime storage and maritime institutions. Since then, merchant ships from the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, coastal areas such as Wentai, Zhejiang, Japan, Ryukyu, Korea, Annan and other countries have gathered in Liujiagang. Liujiagang has become "the wharf of six countries" and "the first Wharf in the world". In Ming Dynasty, Liujiagang, as the anchor of Zheng He's seven voyages to the west, reached its peak and became an important hub port in the world at that time. After the Ming Dynasty, due to various reasons, the port gradually became silent.
Since the reform and opening up, the rapid development of Southern Jiangsu economy, especially the export-oriented economy, has put forward urgent requirements for the development and construction of the port, and also provides a favorable source of goods for the port development and construction.
At the beginning of 1992, the Party committee and government of Taicang county decided to set up a port development zone along the Yangtze River, making full use of the resources of the Yangtze River coastline to develop and construct the port, so as to promote the export-oriented economic development of Southern Jiangsu, echo the development and opening up of Shanghai Pudong, and drive the local economic development of Taicang. In the same year, Jiangsu provincial Party committee and government decided to list Taicang port as a key port in Jiangsu Province in accordance with the spirit of the conference on development and opening up along the Yangtze River held by the State Council. In November 1993, the Jiangsu provincial government approved the establishment of Taicang Port Development Zone, which is also a provincial Development Zone. In the Ninth Five Year Plan for national economic and social development of Jiangsu Province and the outline of long-term goals for 2010 formulated by Jiangsu provincial government, it is clearly proposed to "focus on the development and construction of Taicang port and make it a major commercial port with container hub port as the main body in the Yangtze River Estuary as soon as possible", and a "leading group for planning and construction of Taicang port in Jiangsu Province" has been specially established to strengthen the supervision of Taicang port The leader of port planning and construction. In November 1996, Taicang port was approved as a national first-class port and officially opened to foreign ships. In September 1999, the General Administration of Customs approved Taicang port as a container transit port. In 2001, the Ministry of communications and the State Development Planning Commission positioned Taicang port as the trunk port of container transportation in Shanghai international shipping center. In November 2005, Jiangsu provincial Party committee and government decided to set up Jiangsu Taicang port working committee and Jiangsu Taicang Port Management Committee, which are established at the deputy department level, to fully undertake the management functions of Taicang port construction and development. In September 2006, the Ministry of transport issued the national coastal port layout plan, which listed Suzhou Port (Taicang port, Changshu port and Zhangjiagang port) as one of the nine major container trunk ports in China. In May 2010, the State Council approved the regional planning for the Yangtze River Delta region, and Taicang port was positioned as a key container trunk port and a river sea intermodal transit hub port. In December 2012, the Ministry of finance, the national development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of transport jointly approved that Taicang port will be managed as a coastal port from January 1, 2013, and implement the policy of administrative charges for the port. In September 2013, the Ministry of transport issued a notice to cancel the compulsory pilotage of five-star flag seagoing ships in and out of Taicang port and below the Yangtze River from November 1, 2013. Since then, Taicang port has been a harbor in an all-round way. In October 2013, the Ministry of transport and the people's Government of Jiangsu Province jointly approved the master plan of Suzhou Port (2013-2030), which made it clear that Suzhou port is an important hub of China's major coastal ports and comprehensive transportation system, an important part of Shanghai international shipping center, an important support for the economic and social development of Jiangsu Province and Suzhou City and the promotion of the modernization of Southern Jiangsu Province The Taicang port area of Suzhou Port mainly serves Jiangsu Province, Suzhou City and the areas along the Yangtze River, with Container Trunk transportation, iron ore and coal transshipment as the main transportation, and correspondingly carries out the transshipment storage and transportation of petrochemical products, taking into account the port industrial development of Taicang City.
Geographical advantages
Taicang port is located at the "t" junction of the Yangtze River economic belt and coastal economic belt. It has the location advantage of connecting the Yangtze River and the sea. The port is 68 nautical miles away from the pilot anchorage of the Yangtze River Estuary. It has 38.8 kilometers of the Yangtze River coastline, including 25.7 kilometers of excellent deep-water coastline with 10000 ton berths. The coastline is straight, the beach is stable, and deep-water nearshore. It has all kinds of conditions for building a container hub port . At present, the navigable water depth is up to - 12.5 meters, which can meet the requirements of all-weather entry and exit of 50000 DWT bulk carriers and the fourth generation container ships, and the entry and exit of 100000 or 200000 DWT bulk carriers and the fifth and sixth generation container ships by tide or load shedding.
Taicang port is located in the core of the Yangtze River Delta, one of the most developed regions in China. Relying on the rapid economic development of Southern Jiangsu such as Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou and central Jiangsu such as Nantong, Taizhou and Yangzhou, especially the export-oriented economic development of national development zones such as Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou high tech Zone, Kunshan Development Zone and Taicang Port Development Zone and many provincial development zones, a large number of local container sources have been accumulated for port development. Relying on the golden waterway of the Yangtze River and the rapid economic development of large and medium-sized cities in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the port has provided sufficient river sea transshipment sources.
Taicang port is close to the hinterland. By land, it is only about 60 km to Shanghai, 80 km to Suzhou, 60 km to Suzhou Industrial Park, 90 km to Wuxi, 100 km to Nantong, 250 km to Nanjing, 60 km to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, 96 km to Shanghai Pudong Airport and 86 km to Sunan Shuofang airport. The port is similar to the above cities All of them are connected to the airport by expressways. The waterway is connected with more than 20 ports along the Yangtze River.
