China Pearl gem city was originally located in xihejiawan, Weitang Town. It started in the 1970s and was built in 1984. Its original name is Weitang pearl trade market, Xiangcheng District, Suzhou city. It covers an area of more than 40 mu, with a total construction area of 15000 square meters and a trading hall of 5400 square meters. Located in Weitang Town, Xiangcheng District, it was completed and opened on September 26, 2005. The first phase of pearl trading building covers an area of 45000 square meters, with a total investment of 130 million yuan and a total construction area of 42000 square meters. The first floor of the trading building deals in all kinds of pearl jewelry, handicrafts, cosmetics, health care products, etc. the second floor deals in jadeite, white jade, rare stone, crystal, gold, platinum and other craft jewelry. There are Pearl Culture Expo Center, gold and jewelry testing center, etc. At present, Pearl City has more than 10000 employees, more than 250 trading buildings and an annual turnover of 1.2 billion yuan. Pearl products are exported to Japan, South Korea, the United States, Russia, India, Canada and other countries, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other regions.

The origin of the market

Weitang Town, Xiangcheng District, is a small town in the north of Gusu City, which attaches great importance to business and education since ancient times. In the 1970s, when fishing for fish and shrimp was not allowed, Weitang people took advantage of the water network area to raise mussels and pearls in river fish ponds. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, pearl farmers gathered secretly from all directions to the alley and bamboo forest of Hejiawan in the west of Weitang to trade pearls. An "underground" pearl market is quietly rising.

Planning and construction

China Pearl gem city has speeded up the extension of its industrial chain and fully managed "pearl culture". It has built Pearl Lake Hotel, yupan commercial street, hospital, park, Pearl Lake breeding demonstration area, pearl picking corridor and other supporting facilities. It is also building cultural and entertainment center, commercial city and other projects to integrate pearl trading with breeding, processing, business and housing, leisure, etc. Suzhou jewelry international trading center, the second phase of the project, is mainly engaged in jadeite, jade, crystal and other gems. It has been put into grand trial operation in April.

The third phase of the project plans to build pearl and gem processing industrial zone, jewelry education and training design center and new tourism supporting projects. Suzhou jewelry international trading center, with a construction area of 67000 square meters and an investment of 500 million yuan from Hong Kong AON group, is a high-grade and comprehensive modern international jewelry trading platform integrating jewelry production, purchase, marketing and research. The building has five floors. The central sharing hall is 30 meters high and covers a total area of more than 2000 square meters. It is decorated elegantly, luxurious and magnificent. The first floor and the second floor are pearl and gem jewelry trading area, the second floor is jewelry and handicraft trading area, the third floor is pearl and gem jewelry exhibition area, and the fourth floor is office and supporting catering area.

China Pearl gem city has won the titles of "China's top 100 industries", "China's advanced export enterprises", "excellent products of township enterprises" and "China's largest freshwater pearl market" named by the Ministry of agriculture, the Ministry of foreign trade, the National Bureau of statistics and the Development Research Center of the State Council. The market is not only facing all over the country, but also the pearl products are exported to Japan, South Korea, the United States, Russia, India, Canada and other countries, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

After more than 20 years of development, with the strong support of the superior government and various departments, Weitang invested 128 million yuan in the relocation of Zhendong Pearl Lake in 2005 to build the current China Pearl Gem City Phase I project, which was ceremoniously opened on September 26, with a sales volume of 1.02 billion yuan. The newly-built pearl gem city of China covers an area of 45000 square meters, with a construction area of more than 37000 square meters. It has a double-layer trading hall of more than 16000 square meters, a production supporting building of more than 18000 square meters, a leisure, living, business and tourism supporting facilities of more than 3000 square meters, and a large parking lot of more than 100 parking spaces. With magnificent buildings, advanced facilities and perfect equipment, it is a new road for the north gate of Suzhou Scenery. Since its opening, China Pearl and gem city has successively held "the first China Pearl and jewelry exhibition", "Pearl picking tour competition on National Day", "Pearl chamber of Commerce Founding Conference of Asian jewelry Federation" and "the first Suzhou International Pearl exhibition bidding conference", all of which have achieved great success. On May 12, 2006, the torch relay ceremony of "three experiences" was held in China's Pearl and gem city. From May 20 to 30, the third national sports conference will be held in Suzhou. Around the Pearl and gem city of China, there are more than 800 Mu Pearl Lake breeding base, pearl picking corridor, pearl picking boat, pearl breeding Pavilion, fishing area and so on. The second phase of Suzhou international pearl jewelry trading center, with an investment of 200 million yuan, will be officially started in the second half of 2006, covering an area of 60 mu and a construction area of 6000 square meters.
