Yanzhihe
Yanzhihe river is located about 4 kilometers west of Lishui District, Nanjing city. It is an artificial canal between Qinhuai River and Shijiu lake, which was dug on yanzhigang in Ming Dynasty. It starts from honglanbu in the South and ends at Qinhuai River in the north, about 7.5 km long.
Historical evolution
After Zhu Yuanzhang established his capital in Nanjing in the Ming Dynasty, in order to make the grain and grass from southern Jiangsu and Northern Zhejiang safely transported to Nanjing without the risk of the Yangtze River, he dug the Yanzhi River as an inland water transport. The yanzhihe project needs to be excavated on a yanzhishigang about 5 km long and 25-30 m high. In ancient times when the blasting technology was not developed, the difficulty of the project can be imagined. According to the records of Lishui County annals, when the mountain was opened, the iron chisel was used to chisel a crack in the rock, the hemp was embedded in the stone crack, the tung oil was poured, the fire was ignited and burned, when the rock was red, the cold water was poured on it, the principle of heat expansion and cold contraction was used to crack it, and then the stones were pried open and carried out. "Burning stones and chiseling rivers" makes the rocks mixed with purple, just like women's rouge, hence the name of Rouge River. In fact, this is due to the oxidation of iron contained in the rock.
On the Yanzhi River, there is a huge stone flying across the cliffs on both sides. This is the "Tiansheng bridge" cleverly designed when it was excavated. When Yanzhi river was excavated, craftsmen skillfully left two places with the hardest stone and the highest terrain as bridges, and drilled stone holes under the boulders to connect boats. The famous Tiansheng bridge came from this. According to the records of Lishui County annals, "on the river, a bridge was built on the surface of a huge stone, and more than ten feet of stone holes were drilled to connect boats. The bridge was built according to the situation, so it was named Tiansheng." Tiansheng bridge is 34 meters long, 9 meters wide, 8.9 meters thick and 35 meters high. The stone bridge on the canal is rare at home and abroad. Tiansheng bridge has become a wonder in Lishui.
