Salawusu desert Grand Canyon is located in Dagouwan, Wudinghe Town, Wushen Banner, with an altitude of 1300 meters. The Grand Canyon is composed of 8 Dagouwan. East west direction, the main Valley is 34 km long, eroded by wind and rain and scoured by mountain torrents. It is the largest desert Grand Canyon in China and a rare natural wonder of dryland. The beautiful Salawusu River twists and turns, flows through the peaks, and the lush plants on both sides cover the river. The Salawusu site in the canyon is known as a natural Geopark by experts, and it is the naming place of the famous Salawusu fauna.

Salawusu ecotourism area is located in the southernmost of Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, connected with the Northern Shaanxi plateau. Relying on Batuwan reservoir and Hetao human cultural sites, and taking the Loess Plateau and Maowusu sandy land as the background, the tourist area excavates the original ecological natural landscape and long-standing historical and cultural heritage of Jinsha blue water, and forms a northern scenic spot with unique resources, magnificent scenery and multi-cultural integration

Batuwan reservoir

Batuwan Reservoir Scenic area covers an area of 230 square kilometers, with a water surface of more than 20 square kilometers. The reservoir area is 25 kilometers long, with an average width of 800 meters and a water depth of tens of meters. Most of the water sources come from desert springs and can be directly drunk. It is one of the purest waters in the world. The south bank is the vigorous and desolate Loess Plateau, and the north bank is the Maowusu Desert and Ordos grassland. The landscape is novel and unique, and the customs are gorgeous.

Salawusu Hetao human site

30 km from the upstream of Batuwan reservoir is the Salawusu Hetao human site. Our ancestors lived here 70000-14000 years ago. It is a famous fossil producing area of "Ordos Hetao culture" and "Salawusu fauna". It is a natural geological museum of human Paleontology and geology. In 2001, it was announced as the fifth batch of key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. The long and narrow winding gully Bay in the site area has a unique landform, which is known as the world-class desert Grand Canyon.

Tongwancheng site

Five kilometers from the downstream of Batuwan reservoir is the Tongwancheng site of Daxia state, the last dynasty of Xiongnu in the period of the Sixteen Kingdoms of Wuhu. Although it has been eroded by wind and rain for more than 1600 years, the city piers stand towering and the outline is clear.

Salawusu tourist area has convenient transportation, extending in all directions, 280 km away from Yinchuan airport, 400 km away from Baotou Airport, 240 km away from Ordos airport and 160 km away from Yulin airport. It is 40 km away from Yinqing Expressway and Baotou Maoming expressway. Provincial road through the scenic area, visitors can directly from Hohhot, Baotou, Yinchuan, Yulin, Yan'an and other places to the tourist area. It's also an ideal destination for self driving.
