Memorial to the shaiki Massacre
On June 19, 1925, under the leadership of Deng Zhongxia and Su Zhaozheng, the Chinese Communists, Hong Kong workers started a general strike in support of the Shanghai People's anti imperialist struggle. On June 23, 1925, a large-scale demonstration was held in Guangzhou. When the procession passed the shajixi bridge on the opposite side of the British and French concession, it was shot by the British and French Marines. More than 50 people died, more than 170 seriously injured and countless minor injuries. In 1926, the then Guangdong revolutionary government erected a stone tablet engraved with "do not forget this day" on the east side of Renmin bridge and the Bank of the Pearl River. The monument was built in 2001 and rebuilt according to the original appearance of the monument built in 1926.
Event background
In 1925, workers in Hong Kong and Guangzhou held general strikes on June 19 and 21 in support of the May 30th anti imperialist movement in Shanghai. Britain, France and other countries sent warships to threaten by force. On June 23, more than 100000 people from all walks of life in Guangdong held a demonstration meeting on the case of aiding Shanghai in dongjiaochang. In the afternoon, when the procession arrived at Shaji on the other side of the sand concession, the imperialist forces in the concession fired at the masses and the warships fired for support, resulting in 52 deaths, more than 170 serious injuries and countless minor injuries. After the tragedy, mass organizations from all walks of life, the central executive committee of the Kuomintang and the Guangdong provincial government protested against the crimes of imperialism such as Britain and France. In reply to the British and French consular notes, the Guangdong negotiation office put forward five solemn demands. On July 11, 100000 people in Guangzhou held a public memorial ceremony for Shaji martyrs.
Attitude of all parties
After the tragedy, the Guangdong revolutionary government immediately, in the name of Hu Hanmin, governor of Guangdong Province, made the most serious protest to the consuls General of Britain, France and Portugal in Guangzhou. On the 26th, it made a second serious protest and put forward to the consuls of all countries: (1) the countries concerned in the case sent senior officials to apologize to the Guangdong revolutionary government; (2) punished the officers related to the case; (3) except for the two communication ships, All the warships stationed in Guangdong were withdrawn; (4) the Shamian concession was handed over to the Guangdong revolutionary government; (5) compensation for the casualties.

Mr. Ren was born "after the 70s of the last century". Growing up in Xiguan, he still remembers the memorial to the Shaji massacre. "I used to study in xianjidong primary school. Every year on June 23, the anniversary of the Shaji massacre, the teacher would organize us to go to the memorial." Xiao Chang, a college student, said that he visited the monument when he was in primary school. It is understood that in addition to the sin Chi Tung primary school, the relevant departments and government agencies in Lingnan Street organize the public to visit the memorial every year.
