Zhengding four towers
Now there are four ancient pagodas in Dingcheng: Lingxiao pagoda, Xumi pagoda, Huata pagoda and chengling pagoda, all built in Sui and Tang Dynasties.
Lingxiao tower
Lingxiao tower of Tianning Temple is located in Tianning Temple of Dazhong street in Zhengding City, also known as wooden tower. It was built in the early years of Xiantong in Tang Dynasty (860 A.D.), and was repaired in song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The body of the tower is a mixed structure of brick and wood. The tower is divided into nine levels with a height of 60 meters. It is the highest ancient building in Zhengding city.
The height of the tower decreases from top to bottom. There are stairs in the tower, which can climb 1, 2, 3 and 4 floors. There are central columns above, which are connected with the tower body by radial angle beams. From the outside, the lower three layers of the tower are brick milled bucket arches. Above the fourth floor, the brackets and cornices are all made of wood, with Fengduo hanging at each corner, doors on all sides, and iron cast jujube shaped Tasha at the top. The tower body goes up, the height of each layer decreases, the score of each layer increases, and the appearance is steady and elegant. This kind of high-rise ancient pagoda structure with brick under and wood on top and tower core columns running through five floors is extremely rare in China. Unfortunately, in the 1966 Xingtai earthquake, the Tasha and the top of the tower were shaken off, and the ancient tower was also damaged. The wooden tower was rebuilt later. Its height was reduced to 40 meters. Its structure is different from that of the original tower, but it is still a magnificent tower.
Sumita
The Xumi pagoda of Kaiyuan Temple is also called brick pagoda and square pagoda. Located in Changsheng street in Zhengding City, it was built in 540 A.D. The tower has 9 levels, 53 meters high, and its body is square and hollow. The walls are built with green bricks, and the interior is pulled with wood to make it more firm. There are small stone carvings of the main force of the Tang Dynasty style pseudo heaven in the four corners of the bottom floor, with a door on the front of each floor and a stone ring door on the bottom floor. Two dragons and pearls are carved on the lintel of the first floor, and wind chimes are hung at the four corners of each floor. The body of the pagoda is basically in good condition, and its shape is simple and has the characteristics of Tang pagoda. There is an ancient bell tower in the east of the tower, in which there is a huge copper bell, which rings the big bell. It can be heard from dozens of miles around. This tower is the most concise and simple high-rise ancient tower in China.
tufa
Guanghui Temple Pagoda, also known as Huata and Duobao pagoda, is located in Minsheng street in Zhengding County. It was first built in the period of Zhengyuan of Tang Dynasty (785-805), and has a history of more than 1100 years. The tower is 40.5 meters high with unique shape and structure. Huata is of brick and ash structure. The first floor of the tower is octagonal in plane, and four facades are added with flat hexagonal pavilion shaped single-layer rooms. It is commonly known as xiaota, hence the name Duobao pagoda. There are round arched openings on the front of the tower and outside the chambers. The configuration of the bucket arch is peculiar. On the second floor, the pagoda is octagonal in shape, with 3 rooms on each side, a flat seat at the bottom and a bucket eaves tile on the top. The door is on each side, and the false lattice window lattice and rectangular pointed brick niche are on the top. The third floor flat seat is very large, but the tower is suddenly small. There are square doors and false windows on four sides. The octagonal flat seat with more than three floors is supported by a powerful man. The tower is conical in shape, and is surrounded by colorful sculptures such as tiger, leopard, lion, dragon and Buddha. On top of it is an octagonal eaves with a pagoda brake, which is now damaged. The unique shape and varied structure of the pagoda reflect the superb architectural techniques of Tang Dynasty.
Chengling pagoda
The chengling pagoda of Linji temple is located in the southeast corner of Zhengding city. It is also known as the green pagoda. It was built in 867, the eighth year of Xiantong in Tang Dynasty. This pagoda has a history: monk Yixuan of Tang dynasty founded linjizong Buddhism in Zhengding, and became one of the important Buddhist sects in China. It was introduced to Japan in Song Dynasty. Yixuan died in the seventh year of Xiantong (866) of Tang Dynasty. The following year, Buddhists built a pagoda in the southeast of Zhengding City, so they moved Linji temple to build here. The temple was destroyed early, and the green pagoda was rebuilt in the year of jindading. Now it is still the birthplace of linjizong with many believers. The green pagoda is 33 meters high. It is divided into nine levels. The body of the pagoda is brick and octagonal. In recent years, Japanese Buddhist friends often visit the pagoda.
