Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum, built in 1997, is a national three-level Museum, open to the public free of charge. After the renovation in 2015, there are folk custom museum and ancient bed Museum. The folk custom museum takes "folk custom" as the theme to show the traditional farming production, material life, wedding etiquette and folk beliefs. The ancient bed museum is rebuilt on the basis of the wedding courtyard of the museum, with "ancient bed" as the main theme to show all kinds of characteristic ancient bed and other exquisite wood carving furniture in Bayu area from the middle and late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum, with its exquisite exhibition and strong regional cultural characteristics, has become an important window to display the image of northern Chongqing and promote Bayu culture. In 2018, the Yubei historical and cultural exhibition hall will be established, with two permanent exhibitions, namely "Yubei historical and cultural exhibition" and "ingenuity - Bayu woodwork culture and art exhibition", to display the regional historical culture and characteristic woodwork culture of Yubei.

Historical evolution

On February 26, 1993, Chongqing Municipal Bureau of culture approved the establishment of "Bashu folk custom museum" (now "Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum", Chongqing cultural relics No. 31).

On September 16, 1994, the foundation of Chongqing Bayu folk culture village construction project was laid and the project construction was officially started.

On October 31, 1997, the establishment committee of Yubei district approved the establishment of "Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum" (Yubei No.19).

In November 1997, Chongqing Bayu Folk Culture Village (Chongqing Bayu Folk Museum) was built to receive tourists.

In October 2007, the Longxing branch of Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum completed the exhibition and officially opened to the public.

On May 31, 2008, Chongqing Bayu Folk Custom Museum held a free opening ceremony, and the museum officially opened to the society for free forever.

In July 2009, the State Administration of cultural relics announced that Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum is a national third-class Museum.

In May 2010, the construction of three-level cultural relics database was completed.

On August 5, 2014, Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum officially started the work of exhibition arrangement and suspended its opening for six months.

On February 16, 2015, Chongqing Bayu Folk Custom Museum held an opening ceremony, which was reopened after the renovation.

On July 25, 2016, the editorial office of Yubei district approved that the cultural relics management office of Yubei district changed its name to Yubei District Cultural Heritage Protection Center and added Chongqing Bayu folk custom museum.

Collection

The unique Bayu folk custom museum displays more than 1000 pieces of folk crafts, costumes and other daily necessities in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. The museum attracts more than 40 carved beds in the late Qing Dynasty. One of its representatives is the six column and five eaves gold carved bed, which is known as "the first bed in China". Its rich content and exquisite carving are like a folk custom painting in Bayu area. The contents of carving are rich and colorful, the carving skills are superb, and the carving techniques are various. The layers of hollowing out, or relief, are overlapped, up to five layers, which makes people admire the exquisite carving skills. There are deep and shallow relief, deep relief strong sense of three-dimensional, shallow relief at a glance. Some of the sculptures are bold and unconstrained, while others are meticulous and can't feel their beauty without seeing them with their own eyes.

Another treasure of the museum is the golden wood sculptor's Shrine, which is known as "the first shrine in China". Its image is so tall and heavy that it is rare in the world. The six Golden Dragon in high spirit, many immortals, characters, legends and stories have made the audience full of praise. People who have seen Dazu stone carvings and Yubei woodcarving have said: the essence of stone carving is in Dazu and woodcarving is in Yubei.
