Chinese Sophora Garden

Located in the north of Shenqiu administrative new area and adjacent to g36 Ningluo Expressway in the north, Zhonghua Huaiyuan is a key livelihood project established by Shenqiu County Party committee and government in 2011. The project makes full use of nearly 300 mu of waste yards, ponds and forest belts left over from the construction of ningqiu Luoyang expressway, integrates the water system into a lake, and constructs a Huaishu ecological park with modern garden style.

Construction content

The main landscape has eight functional areas, including square entrance, cultural display, locust tree variety resources, water viewing, children's entertainment, static plants, wetland plank road, catering and leisure.

The main scenic spots include: Statue of Zhou Xingsi, cultural square of thousand characters, Huaixiang lake, huaixian mountain, guanhuai Pavilion, Qixing Island, sanhuai bridge, sanhuai hall, thousand year old pagoda, Wufu Yingbin pagoda, Biyi pagoda, LIANLI pagoda, etc. In the garden, there are 65 Chinese Robinia pseudoacacia and Robinia pseudoacacia, including the world's rare varieties, and more than 20000 Chinese Robinia pseudoacacia trees. Among them, there are more than 150 locust trees with DBH more than 50 cm and 4 trees with DBH more than 1 m. With the characteristics of ecological nature, cultural taste and scientific research of Sophora japonica, Chinese Sophora japonica garden, together with Beijing Sophora japonica garden and Shanxi Hongdong Sophora japonica Park, is known as the three "Sophora japonica garden". The garden can accommodate tens of thousands of people, and become the first ecological locust garden in Henan Province, which integrates ecological tourism, garden culture and natural landscape.

There are no mountains or lakes in Shenqiu County. The builders excavated and repaired a man-made lake by using abandoned pits and ponds. If we want to trace its origin, we have to start from the Ming Dynasty. In order to develop the plain land, develop the economy and increase the revenue of the national treasury, Emperor Xiaozong of Ming Dynasty ordered the immigrants from Hongdong County of Shanxi Province to open up wasteland in the east of Henan Province. In the 10th year of Hongzhi (1497 A.D.), Chen, Xiang, and Ying were cut off to restore Shenqiu County. After arriving in Henan, they were assigned to live in various places and open up wasteland for farming. A group of people came to Huaidian town in Shenqiu County. They saw that it was desolate and there were no houses. There was only a big Sophora tree growing on a high ground, so they lived by it. At that time, when people went out for a long journey or did business, they all relied on horse riding, donkey riding, driving, wheelbarrow, shoulder carrying or boating in the river. The big locust tree is close to the wide Shaying River. It is the only way to go from east to west, and also the key point to go from south to north. So the families under the big locust tree became a resting place for boaters and merchants. Then there was the port, and there were more people coming and going, so people built houses and shops and started workshops. Sophora tree is also said to be a love tree. The romance of the great Sophora tree in the drama "the story of the shadow of Sophora tree" has spread to this day. In Shenqiu, the most planted tree is Sophora japonica. In spring and summer, the fragrance of Sophora japonica is refreshing and the shade of Sophora japonica is cool. All kinds of locust trees

Sophora tree is full of treasure, its dedication represents a noble style, is also a kind of cultural heritage, but also the distant image of people's heart. At the gate of Huaiyuan, there are two thousand year old bamen trees. The one on the right is known as the "king of Chinese Huaihe", with a diameter at breast height of 1.53 meters and a towering crown. It was transplanted from the deep mountains where Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces border. The process of transportation also took a lot of trouble. At that time, in the middle of winter, the branches of Sophora japonica trees were cut and only the trunk was left. It took more than ten gardeners more than three days to transport them back to Shenqiu. Before planting, in order to ensure the survival rate, the world's most famous experts of Sophora japonica make the planting plan and carry out follow-up maintenance. The local people call this tree "a thousand year old locust tree with a chest circumference of 5.5 meters. It's not too thick for three people to hold.". It's said that people who play in Huaiyuan will always take a group photo under the tree and touch the trunk, eager to prevent diseases and keep fit.
