As this place is under the jurisdiction of A'ai Township in Kuqa County, it is now named A'ai grottoes. The discovery of the thousand Buddha cave opened the curtain of the Grand Canyon embracing tourists. According to the research of relevant experts, the cave was built in the 8th century A.D. in the Mid Tang Dynasty, 1300 years ago. It faces south from the north and its gate is 37 ° to the East. It is 4.6 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, covering an area of 16 square meters. In the grottoes, except for the middle wall frescoes with incomplete soil, the "Sixteen views" on the left and right sides of the Buddha wall are well preserved. In the whole mural, there are 23 inscriptions in Chinese ink calligraphy and kuci script, which contain the names of the donors of a Buddha, such as Shen Lingguang, Li Guanghui, Kou junnan, Kou tingjun, Peng, Liang, Zhao and other surnames of Han people in the Central Plains. It fully reflects the early integration of Chinese and kuci.

In the historical process of the decline and fall of Buddhism after the 10th century A.D., because the A'ai grottoes are located on the cliff of the Grand Canyon, which is inaccessible to human beings, it is not easy to climb, and the degree of man-made damage is relatively light. The frescoes of the Buddha statues in the corresponding Grottoes still retain the characteristics of the original composition, gorgeous color, vivid image, correct and luxurious, and their drawing art can be compared with the frescoes of Dunhuang Grottoes at the same time.

Today, it is well preserved in Xinjiang. So far, there is only one grotto with Central Plains cultural style. From the point of view of opposing national division and maintaining the unity of the motherland, the A'ai Grottoes will become a living teaching material for youth patriotism education and will be forever recorded in the annals of history.

Later, people continued to search for treasure in the valley, but they never found a second treasure hole. Only by accident, iron and copper smelting sites of Han Dynasty were found on the hillsides on both sides of gukou.

Jade spring

Yunu spring is close to Fengji in the deep of the canyon. It is about 8 meters high and 4 meters wide. On the circular top wall of the cave, there are springs dripping all the year round. In winter, the dripping water turns into ice. It condenses into a huge crystal icicle with a narrow top and a wide bottom.
