Folklore

Since ancient times, the folklore and mythology about Qishi River have emerged in endlessly.

It is said that in ancient times, there were many floods in Weizheng Town, Sihui, Manshuihe. One day, immortal Luo Yin traveled here. Just as the river overflowed its banks, the people were in dire need of livelihood. He decided to control the flood and save the people. After hearing Luo Yin's report, the Jade Emperor ordered him to drive a group of divine sheep down to earth to control the river disaster.

Luo Yin drives the sheep to the Manshui river. He finds a pregnant woman washing clothes by the river, so he talks to her. The village women didn't know what was sacred, so they cried out in fright. The God sheep were also frightened and jumped into the river one after another. Seeing this, Luo Yin had an idea. He took out a magic pen and drew a line to the sheep. He saw that the sheep, who jumped into the river, turned into large and small stones in strange shapes and covered the river bed. Those sheep who didn't have time to jump into the river turned into a stone wall to resist the mountain torrents. Since then, the earth levee and riverbed of Manshui River have become stone levees and stone river beds. The flood has been eradicated, and people can live and work in peace and contentment. The myth of Qishi river has also been handed down to this day.

The peculiar geological structure of Qishi river has also attracted the attention and investigation of domestic geological and geographical experts. Ling Jingsheng, former chief engineer of the 719 Geological Brigade of Zhaoqing City, revealed the secret of the formation of the strange stone after investigation.

The riverbed and its surrounding geological structure of Qishi River in Weizheng Town, Sihui City is very special, which is located in the overlapping zone of Hercynian Indosinian and Triassic. Later, due to the crustal movement, the sedimentary rocks of the Hercynian Indosinian period were squeezed by the rocks of the Triassic period, and then washed by the river to the riverbed of the Qishi River and piled up. Because the sedimentary rocks of Triassic period are relatively hard, and the rocks of Hercynian Indosinian period have been semi weathered, the rocks are not so hard. After a long time of friction, they become strange shapes and potholes.

The so-called pot hole is the stone cave on the sedimentary rock of the river bed. The pot hole is also called the stone mortar. Because some Indosinian rocks left two crevices, the Triassic rocks were washed by the river and then impacted and rotated on the crevices. After at least a million years of constant impact and rotation, the grotesque caves have been formed.
