Tuotuohe meteorological station is located in Tuotuohe Township and Tanggulashan Township, with an altitude of more than 4700 meters. It is a national basic meteorological station and a kind of weather station. It is the highest sounding station in the world. The Qinghai Tibet Plateau, with a total area of about 250 square kilometers and an average altitude of more than 4000 meters, is known as "the roof of the world" and "the third pole of the earth". It has a significant impact on the meteorological changes in China and Asia, even in the whole northern hemisphere and even the whole world.

Established in 1956, the weather station has long been responsible for providing basic meteorological data and information services for weather forecast departments at all levels, civil aviation departments and Qinghai Tibet railway. The obtained meteorological data have very high scientific value and research value for the study of the climate environment of the whole Qinghai Tibet Plateau and the national and even global climate change. At the same time, it also provides reliable meteorological information and disaster services for local economic construction and animal husbandry production. The terrain here is very cold and the air is thin. The annual freezing period is 331 days.

A vast open space, five rows of simple bungalows, is where the weather crew live and work. It is under such difficult conditions that weather station workers stick to their posts to observe the storm for all mankind. In recent years, based on the basic idea of "business is the center, management is the key", Tuotuohe meteorological station has actively carried out various works with the goal of "state civilized unit". The style and appearance of the station have been greatly improved, and remarkable results have been achieved.

Tuotuo River

T'uo-t'uo River, also known as Tuotuo he. Also known as the Ulan Mulun River, it means "Red River" in Mongolian.

The source of the Yangtze River in China. It originates from the glacier on the southwest side of Geladandong snow mountain, the main peak of Tanggula mountains. It is 375 km (233 miles) long and forms the source water system of the Yangtze River with Dangqu River and chumar river.

The Tuotuo River is the main source of the Yangtze River. As early as in the book of history, people were discussing the source of the Yangtze River. Xu Xiake, a famous Traveler in the Ming Dynasty, thought that the Jinsha River was the source of the Yangtze River, and wrote a book named Jiang Yuan Kao. In the Qing Dynasty, people realized the Tongtian River, but still could not determine the source of the Yangtze River. In 1956 and 1977, China inspected the source area of the Yangtze river twice. In 1977, it was finally determined that the Tuotuo River, which originated in Geladandong, is the main source of the Yangtze River.

When the Tuotuo River originated from the jianggendiru glacier in geladandon, it was a stream formed by melting water from some glaciers and ice cubes. At this time, the water surface was only 3 meters wide and only 20 centimeters deep. Then it flowed northward for a distance of 9 kilometers. At the foot of Badong mountain, it collected the melting water from gaqiadirugang snow mountain. After passing a valley about 15 kilometers long, it continued northward and divided into two rivers, 4 meters wide and 4 meters deep There are many cobweb like currents in the valley on both sides of the river, which is the upper source of the Tuotuo River. At the exit of the valley, the valley suddenly cuts down, forming a steep canyon about 5 kilometers long, more than 20 meters high.

After flowing out of Badong mountain, the river first passes through a vast floodplain, then passes through a gorge, and flows to Hulu lake, then turns to the East. After a process of more than 130 kilometers, the river became open. When it reached the Tuotuo River along the Qinghai Tibet highway, it was a big river with a depth of 3 meters and a width of 20-60 meters.

The famous Wanli Yangtze River first bridge is built on the beach along the Tuotuo River. It is 324 meters long and 11 meters wide reinforced concrete bridge.

The Tuotuo River continues eastward from here and joins Dangqu, Buqu and dorqu when it reaches nangji Balong. It passes through 375 kilometers and forms a large river with a width of more than 30 meters. From here on, it is called Tongtian River.

The scale of Tuotuo River is five times of Erdaogou. Tuotuo River Bridge is the first bridge at the source of the Yangtze River. Tuotuo River originates from the east mountain of geladan at an altitude of 6621 meters, and is the source of the Yangtze River with Dangqu River and chumar river. From there, Tuotuo River flows eastward to Dangqu, which is called Tongtian River. After passing through the direct gate of Yushu in Qinghai and flowing into Sichuan, it is renamed Jinsha River.

Standing on the sightseeing platform of the Tuotuo River Station, you can see the broad Tuotuo River, with silver light shining on the surface. The clear river flows among the beaches in the middle of the river, sometimes diverging and sometimes converging. There is a 273 meter long concrete highway bridge on the Tuotuo River. Beside the bridge is a Golmud Lhasa oil pipeline. Just west of the pipeline is the Tuotuo River Railway Bridge on the Qinghai Tibet railway, known as the first bridge of the Yangtze River.

There are also six or seven small hotels with general accommodation conditions. Each bed charges 20 or 30 yuan per night. There is a shortage of electricity and water.
