Venue features
The architectural form design of Datong Museum inherits the accumulation of Datong history and culture, combines with dragon culture and grotto culture, and coincides with the typical landform characteristics of the Volcanic Group near Datong, reflecting the regional cultural characteristics of "Hu Han blend".
Through the typical depiction of the special-shaped architectural space with rising momentum, the museum tries to think and express the conflict and collision of the two cultures in a deeper level. Two arc-shaped shapes circle around the central hall, forming a radial spiral structure, and the ridge line on the shape strengthens the form of the building. The ends diverging from different ridge lines crisscross up and down to form a rich body combination. The opening at the end faces different urban directions, introduces urban landscape, and forms the line of sight relationship between the interior of the building and the city.
The external form of the building also affects the formation of the internal space. The arc shape is like a combination of different sections of the opening of the grottoes, forming a special-shaped space form with tension at the top of the exhibition hall. The second and third floors of the central hall are equipped with dynamic arc-shaped air bridges. The southwest side of the hall is connected with the underground public service space by large steps. The central hall combines the exhibition design and sets up large exhibits to form a magnificent internal space.
The main body of the building is a spiral structure composed of two curved volumes. A circular shallow pool is arranged on the outside of the building, and an arc-shaped bridge is set to lead to the interior of the building, so as to strengthen the dynamic of the whole building. A square square is set outside the building. The square is surrounded by a 20 meter wide rectangular tree array with green space in between. The north and south of the site are surrounded by the tree array, and the centralized parking lot is arranged. The external wall of the building adopts metal hanging board, which is 45 degree rhombic superposition. In addition to the end openings in different directions, the solid wall is mainly used in combination with the needs of the exhibition hall. The office part is a glass curtain wall, forming a simple glass block. The contrast between the large area solid wall and the glass block, the contrast between the rising dynamic architectural form and the flat shallow pool form the unique characteristics of the architectural form.
