The development history of Tainan City
Tainan is the birthplace of Taiwan and the oldest city in Taiwan. In 1661, after Zheng Chenggong expelled the Dutch, he set up a government in Tainan and set up farms. At that time, mainland residents came to Taiwan in droves, merchant ships gathered, and shops lined up in the city. The scale of Tainan metropolis was thus established. In 1683, the Qing Dynasty established the Taiwan government in Tainan as the capital of Taiwan. Until the end of the 19th century, Tainan has always been the focus of Taiwan's political, economic and cultural development. Due to this historical origin, Tainan has a lot of historical sites, which is known as the ancient cultural capital of Taiwan.
During the Dutch Period (1624-1662), the Dutch occupied Tainan and opened up the first planned European style street of prominza Street (Minquan Road). Later, it became the center of Tainan City street. During the Ming and Zheng dynasties (1662-1683), Zheng Cheng Shizi built Taiwan's first Confucius Temple and set up schools, which opened the cultural precedent of the Qing Dynasty (1683-1895) Cheng Tianfu of Zheng in Ming Dynasty was changed into Taiwan's, with four grass fort and Anping small fort. British businessmen set up Deji and Heji foreign firms in Anping. Yizai Jincheng fort was completed, with a built-in Qing style building. Taiwan's government was changed into Tainan's. During the period of Japanese occupation (1895-1945), the Japanese army occupied Tainan, and Tainan post (Tainan railway station), local court and Tainan Hall (Tainan Municipal Government) were successively completed. Tainan was transformed into Tainan City. The new canal in Tainan was opened. The reconstruction of Tainan post was completed. In addition to suppressing the ideology, the Japanese also made a lot of efforts to change the appearance of Tainan City. The ancient capital of Tainan is in the hands of the Japanese, and gradually has the rudiment of a modern city. After the restoration (after 1945), Tainan City was designated as a provincial city. The whole city is divided into seven administrative regions. The name of Japanese town is changed to the name of today's street. The Confucius Temple was restored and the Confucius Temple Cultural Park was planned. Over the past 300 years, the accumulation of traditional culture has made Tainan an indispensable cultural capital. In the light of the historical and cultural afterglow, Tainan began to recover from its infancy.
Canal construction and its value
The Tainan canal was started on April 16, 1922. After four years of excavation, the opening ceremony was held on April 25, 1926. It is 3782 meters long and 37 meters wide, connecting Tainan and Anping. The ships between the two places were able to directly enter the urban area or sail out of the open sea, driving the economic prosperity of Tainan and activating the local economy. This was once the most beautiful fairyland of Formosa. In 2001, Tainan canal was renovated. After its completion, the water quality became clearer, and the landscape trail beside the canal was an excellent place for recreation. Combining Anping with the adjacent five phases of redevelopment, it is not too much to say that the Tainan canal is the river of life of Fucheng.
The 3.6 km long landscape trail is surrounded by old banyan trees, pedestrian square, red brick trail, wooden plank path and even landscape platform. On weekdays, lovers are here hand in hand to tell their love stories, or parents bring their children and dogs here to exercise and enjoy their happy family.
