Pei de Tang
Pei de Tang is located in the four village of Tianxin village, the town of Buddha. It is famous for its destructed opium hall on the top of the hall. Its plaque is written by Lin Zexu, a patriotic official in Humen Province, who was selling cigarettes in the Qing Dynasty 170 years ago (1835). In 1981, it was confirmed as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units at the county level by the then Yiwu County Museum. At the end of last century, Yiwu Municipal People's government named it "municipal patriotism education base". Peidetang, with its exquisite wood carving, brick carving and stone carving as one of the ancient buildings, has been named as a key cultural relic protection unit by Yiwu Municipal People's government.
Pattern of peidetang
The pattern of Peide hall in Tianxin of Yiwu Buddhist hall is three entrances, two lanes and two patios. At the top of the hall, there is a plaque of "only diligent" inscribed by Wang Fang, a member of the Imperial Academy of Yiwu in the Qing Dynasty, and the plaque of "Peide hall" inscribed by Lin Zexu is hung at the top of the middle of the hall. The plaque is 2.8 meters long and 1.85 meters wide. Its characters are engraved with gold. The three characters are about 0.83 meters × 0.7 meters square. The first one is "Daoguang yiweisui" (1835 A.D.), the second one is "Shaomu Linzexu", and is covered with a red seal.
Peidetang Art
There are six screen doors under the front square of the hall, and a Shiku door on the back eaves. On the door are four regular script characters of "ancient motto is style". Facing the plaque of "Peide hall" from afar is the plaque of "only diligence" hanging on the large square in the front hall, which was inscribed by Wang Fang, a member of the Imperial Academy of Dongyang in the Qing Dynasty. The word "Wei Qin" stands on the right side of the plaque, and Wang Fang's postscript explaining the origin of the word "Wei Qin" is engraved on the left side. Compared with the damaged wooden columns and interior decoration in the hall, the facade of peidetang hall is well preserved, with five flower Gables, polished brick archway and sweet clover head on the front eaves. The door and face of brick carving are exquisitely carved. There are four regular script characters of "mianyanqingze" on the Qingshi door plaque. On both sides of the sun and moon board, there are words: "Shun ploughed Lishan" and "Confucius asked". There are paintings: brick carvings of Tao Yuanming appreciating chrysanthemums and Zhou Dunyi loving lotus. On the lintels of the East and the west, there are plaques of "Jishan" and "Xingcheng".
Construction of Peide Hall
When it comes to the construction of Peide hall, there is a history. In 1832, Lin Zexu was ordered by the imperial court to serve as governor of Jiangsu Province. Three years later, there were four plagues in Suzhou City, and the sick people were suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. The government is worried that it is unable to control the spread of the plague. At this time, Wang hengkui, the tianxinren of Yiwu Buddhist hall, was setting up "Shenke ham shop" in Suzhou. Wang hengkui was not only a businessman, but also a doctor. He learned from the book of compendium of Materia Medica that ham and pig claws can cure diarrhea. When he returned to the business, he immediately ordered people to cut off all the ham and pig paws, cook meat soup and grind bone powder, and send them to the patients. Those who took it were greatly reduced, and the spread of the plague was finally controlled. When Lin Zexu learned about this, he was deeply moved by Wang hengkui's righteous act of helping the people, so he wrote a plaque of "Peide hall" and presented it to Wang hengkui. Wang hengkui hung the plaque in the commercial bank, which increased the value of Wang hengkui's ham. In a few days, Wang hengkui sold out and made a fortune. After that, Wang hengkui went back to Tianxin to build a new hall, named "Peide hall", to commemorate.
Built in the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, the plaque of "peidetang" with a history of more than 170 years is preserved in the new hall of four villages in Tianxin.
Peidetang Cultural Revolution
How did peidetang survive the Cultural Revolution?
One day in 1967, the "Red Guards" of Tianxin village decided to carry out "revolution" on the plaque of "Peide hall" when they broke the "four old". This matter was known by cuichao, the grandson of "peidetang". He knew the importance of the plaque to his family and was ready to take it home and hide it. But when he stood under the plaque, he had a headache. How could he take down the huge wooden plaque? Anxious, Wang cuichao saw the slogan on the white wall and couldn't help thinking. He found a piece of big red paper and asked a well-educated villager in the village to write down Chairman Mao's quotations on the paper: "whatever the enemy opposes, we will support; whatever the enemy supports, we will oppose." Before the "Red Guards" come, cover the plaque with red paper. The next day, "Red Guards" came carrying a long ladder and hoe. When they looked up and saw the slogan, they were stupid. They didn't tear it or break it. In this way, "peidetang" survived.
When Hong Kong returned to China in 1997, Wang cuichao had a portrait of Lin Zexu painted at his own expense, mounted it and placed it directly under the plaque "Peide hall".
Renovation of Peide Hall
In 2012, the back hall of peidetang collapsed for many times. Wang Jianxu, the descendant of peidetang, posted a response on the forum and got high attention from the relevant media. For the protection of "peidetang", Liu Dejun, the mayor of Fotang Town, said, "it has attracted the attention of the city and the town." "At the beginning of this year, I accompanied the city's vice mayor in charge of cultural relics to inspect the situation of peidetang. The city also attached great importance to it. Led by the vice mayor, the city formulated a restoration plan with financial allocation, 80% of which was funded by the city, and the rest was undertaken by the town." Liu Dejun said that there are many and scattered cultural protection points in the Buddhist hall, which has brought some difficulties to the protection work. At present, there are two ways to protect them: for non municipal cultural security units, the village collective will pay for the repair, and the town will pay 160000 yuan for each; for municipal cultural security units, the city and the town will pay for the repair. But different from the rescue protection of ancient buildings facing the whole country, for the local ancient buildings of Fotang, "they tend to be repaired in situ." It is confirmed from the cultural relics Office of Yiwu Municipal Bureau of culture, broadcasting and information that the overall renovation project of "peidetang" has entered the bidding stage, with a total investment of 2.49 million yuan, which will start at the end of July. "After the overall renovation, peidetang will apply for provincial key cultural relics protection units." Jin Guozhen, director of the cultural relics office, said.
