Diaolou group in jinjiangli
Jinjiangli is subordinate to Xiangang Town, Kaiping City, 22 kilometers northeast of Kaiping City. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1875-1908), the village was built by the Huang family according to the plan. At the beginning of the construction of the village, Huang Yigui, who had a high reputation in the Huang family, drew the first boundary line of the village. The width of the vertical lane was 1.5 meters, and a cross lane was built every three rows. The first cross lane was 1.5 meters wide, and the second cross lane was 60 cm wide. The homestead with a unified area was designated for the people to buy, and the houses were required to be 6 meters high. At the back of the village, there are three watchtowers: Ruishi tower, Shengfeng tower and Jinjiang tower.
Development history
In 1918, the villagers raised funds to build Jinjiang tower in the middle of the village. Jinjiang tower is a typical multi storied building, with five storeys and 17.36 meters high. It is a reinforced concrete structure. The top floor is a overhanging platform. Outside the parapet, there is a gray plastic pattern of Chinese and Western fusion. In the center is a building hanging from the top of the mountain. The walls are densely covered with gun holes, and the windows are narrow with iron doors and windows. The structure is simple and plain, and it is a watchtower with obvious defensive.
From 1923 to 1925, Huang Bixiu, who became rich in Hong Kong, built ruishilou in order to protect the life and property of his relatives in his hometown. Ruishilou is located on the east side of jinjianglou and on the main axis of the village houses. It is a typical residential watchtower. The Ruishi building is designed by Huang Zinan, Huang Bixiu's nephew who makes a living in Hong Kong and loves architectural art. The builders are craftsmen from the village or nearby. The cement, steel, glass and wood used in the building are imported from Hong Kong, with a total investment of HK $30000. The building is named after Huang Bixiu's brand "Ruishi", which means "jade". Ruishi building is a reinforced concrete structure with a height of 9 floors and 25 meters. Interior decoration is also greatly influenced by Western life. The first floor is the living room, and the second to sixth floors are equipped with fully equipped halls, bedrooms, toilets, kitchens and furniture. The exterior of the sixth floor is the colonnade, and the seventh floor is the platform. A circular tower for observation and defense is protruded from the four corners of the platform. The north and south sides are combined with Baroque style mountain flowers and Chinese landscape windows. The eighth floor is filled with ancestral shrine. The shrine is exquisitely carved and can be regarded as an art masterpiece. It is the spiritual space for family members to worship their ancestors. The outdoor is a one week viewing platform, and the ninth floor is the main building The first floor is a fortress like watchtower, and the whole building presents the style of medieval Italian castle. The facade of Ruishi building adopts western style window lintel, plinth and colonnade modeling. A large number of gray plastic patterns are integrated with traditional Chinese contents such as happiness, fortune, happiness and longevity. Under the Western appearance, Ruishi building contains a strong flavor of traditional culture. The furniture forms and furnishings in the building show a full traditional style, such as acid wood furniture, chairs, benches, bed cabinets, teak screens, kundian wood stairs, windows, etc. In particular, screen couplets written in seal, Li, Xing, Cao, Kai and other Chinese calligraphy have more traditional Chinese charm. Ruishi building has the reputation of "Kaiping first building".
In 1928, Huang fengxiu, who went to the United States to make a living, built the Shengfeng building in his hometown. The name of the building is "Shengfeng", implying the owner's desire to pray for family happiness and career advancement. Huang fengxiu returned to her roots in her old age. After returning home from the United States, she lived in the building until she died. The building is 7 stories and 12.34 meters high. It is of reinforced concrete structure. It is exquisite and beautiful, full of South Asian Indian architectural style. It is a typical residential building.
