history
Baijia village is located in the west of Handan City, which is divided into two villages. Because the two villages are connected, they are called QianBaiJia village and houbaijia village. On the afternoon of April 22, 1938, two small leaders of the Japanese army stationed in Mengluo village of Handan broke into the village. One of the devils found a woman hiding in the cave in the west of the village and wanted to violence her. After hearing the news, the villagers came to fight with the devils and killed the two Japanese soldiers.
The next afternoon, the Japanese army found the bodies of the two devils buried in the ground in xiwagou, houbaijia village, and immediately carried out frenzied revenge. According to historical records, at that time, among the villagers who could escape in the future in the village, except for two old people who risked being killed and brought out four children, the remaining 128 people, men, women, old and young, were all killed by the Japanese aggressors. After that, the Japanese army hurled the bodies of the victims into two deep wells, piled them with wheat straw, splashed them with gasoline and burned them.
Zhang Zhihai, 67, said that almost everyone in the village died under the Japanese butcher's knife, including four elders of Cheng Zaitian. For decades, in order to mourn the dead elders and educate future generations not to forget the humiliating history, villagers have raised funds to build a memorial beside two martyred wells and build a memorial hall.
According to incomplete statistics, "baijiacun Massacre Site" is the only cultural relic protection unit in Handan city with the content of Japanese invasion. Every year, tens of thousands of people come to pay homage to and receive patriotic education, which has been demolished.
