The origin of the predecessor
Binhai Jianguo College
In 1940, a large number of cadres were needed for military, political and cultural construction in Shandong Anti Japanese base area. In order to meet this need, the CPC Shandong five prefectural committees and the joint offices of counties in Binhai District decided to establish cadre schools in Binhai District according to the organizational system of the first branch of the Anti Japanese university. Because of the special needs of the wartime situation, the school was named "Binhai middle school".
In May 1941, the normal school of Binhai middle school began.
In August 1945, Binhai middle school was renamed Binhai Jianguo college. Most of the staff of the former Binhai middle school worked in Jianguo college.
In the spring of 1947, the Education Department of Shandong Province changed the name of the attached middle school of Shandong University to Binhai normal school and transferred it to Binhai area. Binhai prefectural Party committee and executive office decided to merge Binhai Normal University and Binhai Jianguo university to establish "Binhai public school".
In January 1948, the school was ordered to stop, all the staff were transferred to East China University, and all the students were assigned jobs. In October of the same year, Binhai prefectural Party committee and administrative office decided to restore Binhai middle school in Binhai area, and the restored Binhai middle school was renamed Binhai rural normal school.
Shandong Linyi Institute of Education
In February 1950, Binhai rural normal school was ordered to move from Junan to nanguandishi street of Linyi City, renamed Linyi Normal School of Shandong Province.
On August 25, 1958, the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and the Shandong Provincial People's Committee approved the report of the CPC Linyi prefectural committee and the Linyi High Commissioner's office on the establishment of Linyi University. Linyi University was announced and the opening ceremony was held on September 15.
In August 1959, Linyi prefectural Party committee decided to change the former normal subject of Linyi University into Linyi Normal College, mainly to train middle school teachers for Linyi area.
In the summer of 1960, Linyi Teachers College moved to a new campus located in the southwest of Linyi City (Wulipu).
In July 1962, in the process of "adjusting, consolidating, enriching and improving" the national economy, the establishment of Linyi teachers college was abolished after Linyi prefectural Party committee decided to report to the provincial government for approval.
In the same year, in order to reallocate and make full use of the educational assets of Linyi Teachers College, Linyi prefectural Party committee and administrative office decided to integrate the first normal school, the second normal school, the art school, the physical education school and the kindergarten normal school into a new Linyi Normal School.
From the winter of 1962 to the spring of 1963, all the merged Linyi Teachers College moved to the original Linyi teachers college. Most of the school buildings and teaching equipment of the former Linyi Teachers College were handed over to the newly established Linyi Normal University, and some of the teachers also stayed in Linyi Normal University to teach at the same time.
In June 1966, the "Cultural Revolution" began, the normal teaching work was interrupted, and the school stopped recruiting students.
At the end of 1970, Linyi Normal School was transferred to Linyi County and renamed Linyi May 7th red school.
In 1972, Linyi prefectural Party committee decided to abolish the May 7th red school in Linyi County and restore Linyi Normal School, which is still under the jurisdiction of the region.
In 1973, it began to recruit workers, peasants and soldiers.
In the autumn of 1978, Linyi Normal University was transformed into Linyi Teachers Training Institute.
On June 18, 1983, it was renamed Shandong Linyi Institute of education.
Shandong Linyi Teachers College
In June 1966, in order to meet the needs of the "two kinds of education system", Shandong Provincial Department of education, with the approval of the provincial people's Committee, decided to establish a part-time work study normal college in Linyi, located in the north of Feixian County. As soon as the school began to be built, the Cultural Revolution began, and the school was at a standstill.
In March 1970, the Shandong Provincial Revolutionary Committee decided to abolish the Shandong provincial education cadre school, transfer some personnel and materials to Feixian County, merge it with the part-time work study normal college, and change its name to Linyi district middle school teachers training school. In December of the same year, the Linyi Revolutionary Committee decided to change the name of the school to Linyi Normal College. The school has run three short training classes for middle school teachers and one teaching class.
In 1973, the school began to recruit general specialized courses.
On June 4, 1974, the science and education group of the State Council approved the restoration of Linyi Normal College in Shandong Province.
In July 1977, Comrade Guo Moruo wrote the name of the school.
In 1984, the CPC Linyi prefectural committee and administrative office reported to the Shandong Provincial People's government for approval and moved Linyi Normal College from Feixian County to the north of Linyi city.
In November 1997, he got excellent results in the teaching evaluation of colleges and universities in the whole province.
In 1998, undergraduate major began to recruit students.
Merger development

On March 25, 1999, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Linyi Normal College and Linyi Institute of education to establish Linyi Normal College. In the autumn of the same year, Linyi Normal School was transformed into a secondary school affiliated to Linyi Normal University.
In October 2001, Linyi agricultural school and Linyi polytechnic school were merged into Linyi Normal University.
In June 2007, Yishui Normal University and Feixian Normal University merged into Linyi Normal University and became the branch of Linyi Normal University.
Linyi University
In November 2010, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University changed its name to Linyi University; Linyi university is under the leadership and management of Shandong Provincial People's government, with the management system directly under Shandong Province and Linyi City participating in the co construction.
In November 2013, the school was selected into the second batch of Shandong characteristic famous school project.
In May 2018, Linyi University was newly added as a master's degree awarding unit.
