In ancient times, Dongsha Island was called "Luojia", "nanaoqi" and "dadongsha". Because it is located in the east of Wanshan archipelago, it is called "Dongsha". According to Liang Sheng, a fisherman in the Qing Dynasty, in the 1860s (during the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty), a large number of fishermen from Guangdong and Hainan went there to fish, collect algae and catch turtles, and set up wooden factories on Dongsha Island to process salted fish and seaweed. However, because Dongsha Island is small and located in a corner, it has always been uninhabited for a long time and is only used by boatman for fishing and rest.
In 1899, the shareholders of guang'anxiang fishing boat built a wooden shed on Dongsha Island for drying gelatinous vegetables and seafood. The cost was more than 4000 yuan.
In 1907, Japanese businessman Nishizawa Yoji seized more than a hundred people and invaded the Dongsha Islands by the Shikoku Maru, demolishing the king's temple and driving the fishermen.
To destroy the tombs, hang the Japanese flag, erect wooden cards, the Dongsha Islands are called "no land" and changed to West Island.
