Confucius (551-479 B.C.) was named Qiu, with the word Zhongni. He was born in zouyi (now Qufu, Shandong Province) of the state of Lu in the spring and Autumn period. His ancestors were aristocrats of the state of song, who moved to the state of Lu because they avoided mixing in. Confucius was diligent and studious all his life. He was proficient in ritual, music, archery, imperial, calligraphy and mathematics. He defended slavery in political thought and advocated "benevolence" and "ritual". Confucius had a poor family when he was young. He was a minor official in his youth, and he was a chief commander of the state of Lu when he was 55 years old. Different from Ji Huanzi, who was in power, Confucius abandoned his official position and began to lead his disciples around the world. He has been to Wei, Lu, Zheng, song, Chen, Cai, Chu and other countries, trying to put his political ideas into practice, but he did not receive the attention of the monarchs. Later, he specialized in education and the compilation of classics, and became the founder of ancient private school education in China. The Gangsheng Temple of Xuetang is the place where Confucius taught in the Wei state.
