Mingshuanglou

Mingshuanglou is located in Yuhua Road, Baoding city. It was built in jindadingjian (1161-1189). It was rebuilt in xuandejian (1426-1435) of Ming Dynasty and renamed as Xuande Lou. It was rebuilt in chenghuajian (1465-1487) and renamed as ganyun Lou. It was also renamed mingshuanglou in 1703.

In the building, there is a large bell cast during the reign of Jin Dading. It was cast in 1181. The bell is 2.25 meters high and 2 meters in diameter. The bell has three layers, and each layer has a Buddha statue. It is one of the existing ancient clocks. The building is built on a high platform with two stories high. On the east side of the building, there is a staircase with double eaves and a roof of tiles. The lower eaves are covered with small octagonal columns with three stepped single arches and the upper eaves are covered with five stepped single cocked single arches. Although the building was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty, it still retains some of the early wooden construction techniques.

Mingshuanglou, also known as ancient mingshuanglou, is located in Yuhua Road, Baoding City, close to Daci Pavilion, and behind it is the bell tower commercial building. The bell is 2.55 meters high with a diameter of 2 meters and a lip thickness of 17 cm. It was cast in the 21th year of Dading (1181 A.D.). According to the dictionary of Chinese places of interest, the clock dates back to 203 A.D. of the bell tower in Xi'an and 552 A.D. of the bell king of the Bell Temple in Beijing.

The clock is made of pig iron, which is a traditional casting process in China. For thousands of years, it has experienced countless impacts and vicissitudes, and is still intact, reflecting the ancient smelting in China.

The clock of mingshuanglou is suspended on the second floor. It is supported by two 8.5-meter-high and 0.45-meter-diameter wooden columns (also known as Optimus Prime). At the top of the columns, there are eight beams to form a frame. The clock is hung on the top double square. In this way, each beam is evenly stressed, which not only reduces the pressure of the column, but also plays the role of a fixed support. It has the anti-seismic function, so that the clock body can maintain balance and the suspension is very important Science.
