Opening background
Xuzhou is one of the "nine states" in China since ancient times. It is a national historical and cultural city with a history of more than 6000 years of civilization and 2500 years of urban construction. It can be called the first ancient city in Jiangsu. However, due to the change of dynasties, the devastation of wars, the invasion of floods and the occurrence of earthquakes, Xuzhou City was demolished, relocated and built frequently. On the ground of Xuzhou City, it is difficult to see several ancient buildings. That is to say, in terms of architectural appearance, Xuzhou City has lost its own memory. What a pity it is to lose the memory of the city. In order to retrieve this memory, on April 1, 2000, Xuzhou municipal government held a special office meeting and passed the decision to prepare for the construction of Xuzhou ancient Museum in the form of minutes. It was officially opened on May 18, 2004.
History and Humanities
The exhibition of Xuzhou urban construction history is divided into two parts: Pengcheng, the ancient capital, and Yaoyi, the state capital. Pengcheng was arrogant and established as the capital of Peng state. It has a long history of more than 2300 years from the Xia, Shang, Chunqiu, Qin and Han Dynasties to the Western Jin Dynasty. The important feature of "ancient capital Pengcheng" is that the site of the city has not been changed, but because of repeated wars and flooding of the Yellow River, the site was seriously damaged and buried 6-11 meters underground. Relics (traces) of the Warring States period, Han Dynasty, Wei and Jin Dynasties unearthed in the city over the years include platform foundations, column foundations, weapons workshops, granaries, wells, roads, drainage ditches, as well as a large number of building materials such as pottery pipes, bricks, tiles and tiles. A large part of these objects are reflected in the ancient capital Pengcheng.
With the end of the northern and Southern Dynasties, the history of the ancient city of Xuzhou entered a more important stage of development. In the Sui Dynasty, Xuzhou was the general manager's office. In the Tang Dynasty, there were the governor's office and the military envoy of Wuning. In the Northern Song Dynasty, it was Xuzhou. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was Xuzhou Road and wu'anzhou. In the Ming Dynasty, it was the capital of Zhili (Nanjing). In the Qing Dynasty, it was promoted to be the governor's office. The architecture of Xuzhou in this period embodies a strong military town color, leaving behind such famous cultural buildings as swallow house and polo field in Tang Dynasty; yellow house and crane releasing Pavilion in Song Dynasty; Kuishan tower and Yan Bridge in Ming Dynasty; Qianlong palace and Jingshan bridge in Qing Dynasty. With the development of thousands of years, most of these famous buildings are submerged in the storm of history. Some were rebuilt later, but some disappeared forever. Fortunately, the ancient builders collected some of the components of these buildings from the people, and the relics are on display in the part of "state capital and city". Although the components are scattered, they reflect the splendid ancient architectural civilization of Xuzhou.
Cultural relics in scenic spots
The museum is rich in cultural relics and is the second Museum of the same nature in China after Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum. Its construction and opening up is of great significance to the promotion of Xuzhou's urban cultural taste and the display of Xuzhou's urban development history. The museum is divided into indoor and outdoor exhibition areas. The outdoor exhibition area is also divided into two parts, namely "guishiyuan" and "yuanbeipu", which focus on the stone carving and stone carving art in the architectural history of Xuzhou. Nearly 200 ancient stone carvings in the garden are dazzling, showing the vicissitudes of the ancient city of Xuzhou. The indoor exhibition area is divided into "Xuzhou urban construction history exhibition" and "solidified notes". The exhibition area of Xuzhou urban construction history takes the development history of Xuzhou City as the main axis, combines with the ancient architectural relics of Xuzhou, supplemented by historical documents, and comprehensively reflects the development process of Xuzhou City. The "solidified notes" exhibition area displays ancient architectural components in Xuzhou and its surrounding areas, including hundreds of exquisite cultural relics such as stone carvings, brick carvings and wood carvings. These ancient architectural relics are like historical bricks and stones, which have built a historical tunnel of Xuzhou ancient city for more than 2000 years.
