Development and evolution
historical background
At the end of the 1960s, due to the lack of effective air defense capability of Chinese 051 destroyer, 053k frigate has the problems of small displacement, low endurance, low speed and poor seakeeping, which can not form effective tactical coordination in naval warfare. In order to rapidly improve the Navy's actual combat capability and maintain the safety of China's territorial waters and shipping lines, the Chinese navy has proposed to the CMC the construction of a series of ocean going frigates, including large artillery missile destroyers. The Central Military Commission and relevant parties attached great importance to this proposal, and then started the relevant investigation and demonstration. At the same time, according to the Navy's suggestion, the relevant ship design units have carried out the tactical technology and scheme demonstration of large artillery missile ship
. In February 1968, according to the Navy's report "suggestions on building ocean going escort ships", China's naval industry assigned the task of carrying out tactical technology and scheme demonstration of large Artillery Missile ships, and determined the design code as 055
.
In June 1970, the development of the early 055 large artillery missile destroyer (hereinafter referred to as 055) was attached great importance by the national high level. Premier Zhou Enlai specially gave instructions on the development task of 055. If the combat mission of the large missile destroyer (055) is only offshore, it can mainly face the sea and air, and give consideration to anti submarine. If there is an offshore mission (ocean voyage), it is advisable to give more consideration to the matching of anti submarine weapons. Please have a drink
In August 1970, the Central Military Commission decided to develop the 055 warship mainly in Shanghai. In July 1974, the office of China's national defense industry (hereinafter referred to as the office of national defense industry) once again decided that the Navy should organize a supplementary demonstration of the 055 large destroyer
.
In March 1976, the State Council and the Central Military Commission of China formally assigned the task of developing the 055 warship to the national defense industry office, the Sixth Ministry of machinery industry (i.e. the Ministry of shipbuilding industry) and other relevant units with the document No. 19 issued by the State Council. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the Shanghai municipal government would take the lead and set up a research and development team in combination with the naval research institutes, naval factories and the North Sea fleet to officially launch the development of the 055 warship.
However, due to the weak foundation of science, technology and industry, the development of ship to air missile, power plant, radar system and other supporting equipment has been delayed, resulting in the slow progress of 055 ship design and development
.
In the early 1980s, in order to re judge the international strategic situation and give priority to the development of economy, China began to adjust a large number of new equipment projects under development. The 055 large artillery missile destroyer was changed from the formal development model to the pre research model
Due to the shortage of funds, manpower and development resources, the development of 055 was suspended.
Development history
In the 1990s, China's shipbuilding industry department designed and built the Shenzhen 051B destroyer, which took the lead in applying many new technological achievements and tested them by sailing in the open sea. During the same period, the Chinese Navy also purchased and imported four 956 destroyers from Russia in two batches. On the basis of introducing some shipborne weapons and gas turbine power plants, and relying on the overall technology of Shenzhen warship, the Chinese Navy designed and built two 052B destroyers, Guangzhou warship and Wuhan warship, which were commissioned in 2004. In October and December 2005, the first two 052c destroyers, Lanzhou and Haikou, equipped with large active phased array radar and ship to air missile vertical launching system, were delivered to the Navy for service. From this, the Chinese Navy formed the regional air defense combat capability of ship formation, and then upgraded the 052d destroyer on the basis of 052c
. The new progress of Chinese warship construction has laid a foundation for the new development of large destroyers
.
Simulation study
In April 2014, a full-scale model of the superstructure of a warship was erected at the Chinese Navy electronic test site in Wuhan. The model is characterized by a closed integrated mast used for radar and other electronic equipment. According to the scale analysis of the model facilities, it is a new large warship with a displacement of nearly 10000 tons, and is again called 055
.
In 2015, according to the analysis of media articles, China's new type 055 destroyer will have two groups of unit vertical launchers (VLS, one in front and one in back), carrying anti-ship missiles, anti submarine missiles and air defense missiles
.
First ship construction
In December 2014, the construction of 055 destroyer No.1 officially started
.
In 2015, according to the analysis of the United States, the first ship of 055 destroyer may be built as early as 2016, and it has been preliminarily classified as a cruiser according to its size
. Foreign media analysis: if the 055 destroyer is equipped with laser weapons and electromagnetic railguns, it needs to integrate energy intensive systems such as electric propulsion power
.
On the morning of June 28, 2017, 055 destroyer No.1 was launched in Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard
.
On August 24, 2018, 055 destroyer No. 1 began its trial voyage
.
Service trends
On April 23, 2019, the PLA Navy's 70th anniversary naval parade was held in Qingdao. The destroyer fleet composed of Nanchang, Guiyang, Taiyuan, Changchun, Haikou, Wuhan and Shijiazhuang was inspected
.
In May 25, 2019, the official account of CCTV WeChat of China announced that there were 055 000 tons destroyer sailing pictures in the promotional film released by China's Navy Beihai fleet. It indicates that the ship will join the North Sea fleet and become one of the core combat capabilities of the fleet
.
On the morning of January 12, 2020, Nanchang, the first warship of Navy 055 destroyer, was built and put into operation at a military port in Qingdao. At about 9 o'clock, the ceremony began. The leaders of the Navy announced that the Nanchang warship would be built and included in the list, as well as the name and side number of the warship. They awarded a military flag to Zhou Minghui, the captain of the Nanchang warship, and a naming certificate to Chen Weigong, the political commissar of the warship
.
Overall evaluation
The first ship of the 055 destroyer was named Nanchang, board 101, reflecting the importance of the Chinese navy
. In the sequence of Chinese warships, side number 101 is of special significance. It used to be the side number of Anshan destroyer, the first and flagship destroyer of the new Chinese navy. After half a century, the first ship of 055 destroyer was re commissioned with 101 side number and named after Nanchang, the holy land of revolution, which indicates that the ship is the "leading ship" among all destroyers of the Chinese navy
.
Nanchang is the largest destroyer in China. It adopts stealth design, with small radar cross section, low infrared radiation, small electromagnetic radiation and low noise level. Equipped with 112 vertical launching devices of various types, the ship can launch anti-ship missiles, air defense missiles, anti submarine missiles, and long-range cruise missiles for land attack. It can strike targets 1000-2000 kilometers away. At the same time, it has added anti missile combat capability. The ship applies modern information and network radio electronic technology, and is equipped with more advanced air and sea radars. It can search and detect targets coming from sea and air at a longer distance, with faster response time, and can track and guide air defense missiles to strike more targets
.
Nanchang warship has certain anti ballistic missile capability, adopts dual band radar, has S-band active phased array radar system and X-band small phased array radar system, and has strong detection capability for medium range and short range targets. The ship has a strong ability to capture information and process the whole information, and can highly fuse all kinds of information including space, air, water and underwater
. According to foreign military analysis, if we speculate according to China's development, 055 may be the first Chinese warship to install laser weapons
.
The full load displacement of Nanchang is more than 12000 tons, reaching the size of a traditional cruiser, even larger than the Ticonderoga class cruiser of the US Navy and the 1164 class cruiser (glory class) of the Russian navy, second only to the jumwalt class destroyer of the US Navy
