Signal mountain is located in the southeast of Guanxiang mountain and the southwest of Qingdao mountain, with an altitude of 98 meters and an area of 6.3 hectares.

Original name

Signal mountain used to have many names, and each name has its own origin. Although different versions are different, each has its own legend and characteristics.

Statement 1

In November 1897, when Germany occupied Qingdao, it first seized the signal mountain as the commanding point, and then pointed the gun at the Yamen of the Qing government, forcing the Qing army to withdraw. Later, the German army set up the earliest radio station in Qingdao on the mountain and set up a signal guidance station to direct ships to enter and leave Jiaozhou Bay. Therefore, the governor of jiaoao in Germany named the mountain "siegna mountain" (meaning "signal" in German).

After the Japanese army occupied Qingdao, it changed its name to "Shenwei mountain" in the name of its commander

With the application of advanced navigation technology, radio technology has replaced the signal guidance flag, and Signal Mountain has gradually ended the historical mission of signal navigation.

Statement 2

After the German occupation of Qingdao, in order to command the ships going in and out of Jiaozhou Bay, a signal issuing station was built at the top of the mountain. Various signal signs, weather and wind signs were hung every day, and it was named "huazmark mountain". The people called it "Guaqi mountain" or "Qitai mountain". In 1923, jiaoao commercial port governor's office corrected it as "Signal Mountain" when sorting out the division and place names of Qingdao

Statement 3

The original name of this mountain was Dashitou. After the port of Qingdao was built, there was a flag platform on the mountain, which was specially used to transmit signals when ships and sailing boats entered the port. Therefore, it was named "Signal Mountain", also known as "flag mountain".

When Germany occupied Qingdao in 1897, it set up guns on the top of the mountain. Later, it built a monument to occupy Qingdao on the mountain, and named the mountain "dilis mountain" to commemorate dilis, commander of the German fleet who occupied Qingdao.

After the Japanese occupied Qingdao, it was renamed "Shenwei mountain" to commemorate the Japanese general Shenwei who occupied Qingdao, and the date of Japanese occupation of Qingdao was engraved below the monument.

In 1922, the Beiyang government took back Qingdao. When the Japanese army withdrew, the monument was chiseled down and moved back to Japan. It is now in the Tokyo National Museum
