Iron Wharf
The iron wharf is the berthing place of the naval vessels of the northern ocean. It was designed and built by Taoist Gong Zhaoyu and completed in 1891.
The pier piles of the iron wharf are nailed into square columns with thick iron plates. They are four or five feet in diameter and five or six feet in length. They are filled with cement in the middle. They are as solid as stone and go straight to the bottom of the sea. They can dock ten thousand tons of ships at high tide.
After the Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895, although the wharf was repaired and rebuilt several times, it basically maintained its original appearance.
In 1971, a T-shaped approach bridge was built on the original foundation.
It is still used by the people's navy.
building structure
The iron wharf is located at Liugong Island at the mouth of Weihai Bay. The iron warship of Beiyang Navy, which was once very popular, docked here at that time.
The iron wharf is about several hundred meters long. All the piers and piles are nailed into square columns with thick iron plates. They are four or five feet in diameter and five or six feet in length. They are filled with cement in the middle and set as stone. They go straight to the bottom of the sea.
The earliest "T-shaped" iron wharf can no longer be used, and all the ships dock on the newly built section.
Historical evolution
In 1891, the iron wharf was built.
In 1971, the renovation of the new section of the iron wharf began.
Since the first warship of the Navy docked, more than 30 years later, it has gradually become a modern military port through the continuous construction of several generations of officers and men, with more than 100 surface ships docked every year.
Water pipes, oil pipes and cables extend from the respective interfaces on the wharf. Navy officers and men in navy navy training suits are operating various digital equipment and are degaussing and replenishing the ships in an orderly manner.
The most scarce oil and water resources on the island are constantly replenished to warships. In recent years, the military port of Liugong Island has taken the road of military civilian integration construction, successively building oil depots and laying submarine cables on the island.
In August 2011, the island was connected to the submarine seamless water supply pipeline, and the water supply was just like that in the urban area, greatly improving the support capacity of the military port terminal.
