Kaifeng West Lake is located in the planned Kaifeng new area of Zhengbian new area. It is a lake forest ecological landscape belt connecting the old and new Bianjing (Tokyo, Daliang, Bianliang, Xiangfu) urban areas. On October 25, 2010, the project named heigangkou water transfer reservoir officially started construction, which immediately attracted great attention from all walks of life. This is the West Lake in Kaifeng. It began to store water on May 1, 2014, and completed the first phase of greening on the waterfront in 2015, which has become another business card of beautiful Kaifeng.

Kaifeng, Bianjing and Tokyo city are the famous ancient capitals of eight dynasties in China. Five lakes (Longting lake, Baogong lake, iron tower lake, sunshine lake, Northwest Lake and jinmingchi Lake) and six rivers surround Bianjing. In order to create a new landscape of northern water city in the new area, Kaifeng West Lake, located in the new area, takes advantage of the situation. It starts from Lianhuo Expressway in the north, borders Jin'an road in the south, reaches the city protection dike in Kaifeng in the East and the North Branch of Majia in the West. It is 5km long from north to South and 1.2km long from east to west, covering an area of about 6000 mu.

Compared with more than 700 mu of Longting lake, the newly built reservoir area is equivalent to 8 Longting lakes. The total investment is 200 million yuan. The planning area is eight duolongting lakes. Kaifeng West Lake will be a charming scenic spot outside the eight sceneries of Bianliang.

The surrounding ecological landscape is designed and planned by Tongji University from a scientific and high starting point. The West Lake of Kaifeng is filled with water from the West Main Canal, which provides new water sources for agricultural irrigation, industrial water in the urban area and water replenishment of rivers and lakes. The New Yellow River irrigation area is nearly 300000 mu, and the annual water supply to the urban area is 30 million cubic meters. It will also provide water for the "Zhongyi Lake" in Kaifeng new area, which plays a very important role in improving the ecological and livable environment of Kaifeng.

The new urban area of Bianxi New District will be built around the planning and construction of Kaifeng West Lake to create a new livable home with humanities, ecology, forest and lakeside.

Planned use

The West Lake scenic area is nearly 9000 mu, which is equivalent to Nine West Lakes in Kaifeng, namely the heigangkou reservoir in Kaifeng City. Zhang Chaorui, chief planner of Kaifeng planning, survey, design and Research Institute, said that the West Lake is located between Kaifeng new area and the old urban area. There are three rivers in the area, including Majia River, West Main Canal and Qizhi canal. Majia river is mainly responsible for flood control

The west main canal is responsible for water supply to the downstream arid agricultural areas. In order to make full use of the regional resources of this water conservancy River, Kaifeng City has planned and constructed nearly 9000 mu of Kaifeng West Lake scenic area, and the project officially started construction in April 2011. The scenic spot starts from the west city protection dike Huandi road in the East, the first avenue of the new district (Fuyi Avenue) in the west, the North Ring Road in the north, and the Songcheng road in the south. The widest part is 1.2km, the narrowest part is 300m, and the North-South length is about 5km. After the completion of Kaifeng West Lake, it will replace the original function of water system. First, it will be used as the flood discharge channel of Kaifeng City for flood control and drainage. Second, it will transport agricultural water to arid agricultural areas. Third, it will supply ecological water to the ecological water system of new and old urban areas. Fourth, it will provide domestic water to the citizens. Kaifeng West Lake, like Hangzhou West Lake, is a fully open scenic spot. The area of Longting park is only 1000 mu, and the water area is only 700 mu. Kaifeng West Lake scenic spot is equivalent to nine Longting parks, with a water area of 6000 mu, equivalent to two-thirds of Hangzhou West Lake. From north to south, the West Lake is divided into six functional areas: ecological wetland experience area (pregnant water), waterfront leisure business area (happy water), culture and art exhibition area (enjoying water), historical and cultural deduction area (playing water), humanistic theme experience area (loving water), and ecological countryside experience area (resting water).

In the landscape belt, there will be a slow lane throughout the landscape sightseeing, which is convenient for citizens and tourists. In addition, there will be battery car transfer station and bicycle rental system. The rental system is based on the Hangzhou West Lake model, with a spacing of 500 meters per unit. There are 14 parking lots and more than 400 bicycle parking spaces. Except for motor vehicles, the scenic area also retains the motor vehicle traffic connecting with the city, and plans to set up 6 underground parking lots and 1620 parking spaces. People from the Planning Bureau of Kaifeng City disclosed that there is a combined fan screen fountain on the West Lake, so that citizens and tourists can enjoy the large-scale water show. There are 13 ancient garden buildings on the East Bank of West Lake, which reflect the characteristics of Kaifeng, the culture of Song Dynasty and the connotation of the scenic spot. "In the future, it will not only be the back garden of Kaifeng citizens, but also the back garden of friends from all walks of life who love Kaifeng and song culture." He said.

The "four rivers connect five lakes" project connects the rivers and lakes in the old urban area. While the West Lake is excavated in the new urban area of Kaifeng, the old urban area of Kaifeng is also connecting the rivers and lakes. Kaifeng is known as the water city in the north. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Kaifeng was located in Bianliang, Tokyo. There are many rivers in the city. The four water systems of Bianhe, Caihe, Jinshui and Wuzhanghe flow from southeast to northwest. As the traffic artery of ancient water transport, the urban rivers are connected with each other. Later, the river gradually silted up. The lakes and rivers that used to be "hand in hand" broke up, and lakes such as Baogong lake, Longting lake and iron tower lake also split up. In order to connect the water system, Kaifeng Municipal government launched the Songdu water system project of "four rivers connecting five lakes", which uses four rivers to connect five lakes to form a continuous and complete urban water system with a total planning length of 8400 meters. In 2002, the first phase of the project was launched, aiming to open up the Guangji river of Longting lake and iron tower lake and form a water tourism chain. However, due to the short distance and narrow river, the boat tour has not been realized. In 2007, the second phase of the water system project began to be invested, with a total length of 1900 meters, connecting Baogong lake and Longting Lake in the urban area, forming the Yuhe scenic spot. "In the scenic area, there is a unique Song Dynasty bridge complex in China. Six Landscape Bridges and five municipal bridges are modeled after the prototype of Song Dynasty bridges. At the same time, the only Song Dynasty garden landscape complex in China has been built." Zhonghua, deputy general manager of Kaifeng Songdu water system Tourism Co., Ltd. Zhong Hua said that in the past, most of the scenic spots in Kaifeng were concentrated in the northern part of the urban area. Although some lakes, rivers and scenic spots in the South had good scenery, they could not fully attract tourists because of the fragmented water system. Therefore, most of them were "one-day tours". Tourists stayed for a short time and tourism resources were not fully developed. Walking in the Xisi night market near Baogong temple, you can see foreign tourists holding the propaganda page of "Song Yuhe". After they took a boat in the Yuhe scenic spot, they spent money in the night market. After they had enough to eat and drink, they stayed in a nearby hotel and continued to play the next day. "The water system project will connect the original isolated scenic spots, the water will change from dead to alive, and the tourism area of the urban area will also increase." She said that the Yuhe river system scenic spot was officially put into operation on the national day of 2016, and the Kaifeng tourism in the May Day holiday of 2017 was obviously improved, with more than 3000 tourists taking a boat in the scenic spot in three days. Nowadays, the catering, accommodation and other service industries near the scenic area have been significantly promoted.

Imaginary scenery

Through the new and old urban water system, visitors can easily play. Kaifeng reporter learned that the West Lake in the new district and the "four rivers and five lakes" in the old city will eventually join hands. The third phase of the old urban water system project has also entered the agenda. The reporter learned from relevant departments that the third phase of the project will connect the iron tower lake, sunshine lake and ancient Bianhe River, with a total length of 4300 meters. At that time, the integrated tourism resources will be more abundant than the Yuhe scenic spot in the second phase.

Now, on the north side of Tokyo Avenue, there is an ecological forest belt about 100 meters wide, which will become a key link between the old city and the new area. There is a Bishui River in the regional planning of the ecological forest belt. The water from the West Lake of Kaifeng will flow into huangbian river through Bishui river. All the way south, it will flow into libian River, through shuimendong, and finally into Longting lake, which will be fully recycled in the old urban area. At that time, after enjoying the eight sceneries of the West Lake, foreign tourists will come back to the old city to enjoy the four rivers and five lakes and taste the night market of Kaifeng. In addition, the connection of the old urban area and the new area will further improve the flood control and drainage capacity of Kaifeng City. The person in charge of Kaifeng urban management bureau said that before rivers and lakes in the old city were connected, they had the function of collecting rainwater. When heavy rainfall occurred, they could weaken the first wave of flood peak, so as not to form ponding quickly. After the new and old urban water systems are connected, the rainwater will flow freely between the rivers and lakes, and smoothly discharge out of the urban area through the river.
