Yan Huiqing's former residence, also known as the Manchurian consulate in Tianjin, is the former residence of Yan Huiqing, the Prime Minister of the Republic of China, the Minister of the Republic of China to the United States, and the chairman of the Bank of China in Tianjin. It is located in Hong Kong Road (No. 24-26, munan Road, Heping District) of the British concession in Tianjin at that time. The building is a western style building with classical characteristics. It is a cultural relic protection unit and a historical building of key protection grade in Tianjin.
architectural style
Yan Huiqing's former residence is a brown sulfur tank three story brick wood mixed structure high-grade European style residential building (with basement), with a construction area of 2553 square meters. It is a building with European medieval classical style and Roman style. On the top of the red tile slope, the clear water wall is made of Liugang brick, and the wall is built with Geda brick and Tianjin traditional building material sulfur jar brick. Some parts are set with irregular Pick-out, among which the Pick-out part is deliberately chiseled to form "pimple wall". The facade of the building is symmetrically arranged in three sections, and the proportion of the three sections is classical style. In the middle of the facade, the semi-circular arcade highlights the four arched veranda, and the square windows and the arched veranda form a sharp contrast. There are five square pillars on the front. The shape of the building's external eaves is changeable, with concave and convex combination, and the details are decorated with old styles. The entrance of the former residence is equipped with high turning stairs. There are living room, dance hall, dining room and Buddhist hall inside the building. The floors, doors and windows are made of Filipino wood and equipped with fireplace. There is a square Japanese glass lamp on the top of the wall, and the main door is cast iron. The building was not affected during the Tangshan earthquake.
Building history
The building was built in 1920s; Yan Huiqing moved here in 1926. After the September 18th Incident in 1931, Yan Huiqing was recruited by the Nanjing National Government and appointed as the chief representative of the Chinese delegation to the League of nations, so he transferred the building to Li Xuemeng, manager of Dalian Yongyuan shipping company. In 1943, Li Xuemeng rented the building to Manchukuo at the price of 3000 yuan per month as Manchukuo's consulate in Tianjin until 1945, when Japan declared its defeat in the Second World War. The building was later leased to the Soviet consulate. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was the office of Tianjin Labor Bureau. On June 2, 1987, it was listed as Tianjin cultural relics protection unit by Tianjin Municipal People's government. The former residence is now used by Tianjin Sanyuan power investment company.
