Historical evolution
Initial construction
Jinjiayao mosque was built in 1574, the second year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. In the early years of the Ming Dynasty, some anqing people in the grain transportation fleet would set up temporary tent for worship in jinjiayao every winter. After that, some Hui people came here one after another to settle down and build mosques. At first, jinjiayao mosque was just a temporary chapel.
Renovation and reconstruction
Later, with the funding of Wang Yuzhou, Zuo Guanting and Mu Yushan, the main hall, north-south lecture hall and bath room of the mosque were built. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Imam Feng raised funds to rebuild the mosque. In 1917, 1984, 1988 and 1990, the main hall, North and South lecture halls and gatehouses of the mosque were repaired one after another.
Scale system
Jinjiayao mosque has a total construction area of 2000 square meters, and the main hall has a construction area of 200 square meters. The architectural form of the main hall of worship of the mosque is Chinese classical palace style.
The Chinese plaque in the mosque is inscribed with such words as "halal Wuer" and "nature Wuji"; the Arabic plaque is inscribed with "Taisi MiYe scripture". In addition, jinjiayao mosque has more than 600 Muslim households, which respect Gedimu.
Architectural features
Wang Jingzhai, a famous Islamic educator, once wrote in his book: "in the early Ming Dynasty, there were no Hui people in Tianjin. At that time, there were some anqing people in the fleet carrying grain. They would set up temporary tent for worship here every winter. Since then, more and more Hui compatriots have come to live here. Later, they raised money to buy this place and built a mosque. At first, the mosque was just a temporary worship room built by several Hui compatriots. Later, under the persuasion of a man named Wang Yuzhou, Zuo Guanting and Mu Yushan donated some houses to build the main hall, the north and South lecture hall and the bathroom. During the reign of Guangxu, under the persuasion of an imam surnamed Feng, he raised funds to rebuild the hall. In 1917, 1984, 1988 and 1990, he repaired the main hall, the north and South lecture halls and the gatehouse respectively. The inscription of jinjiayao mosque in Tianjin, which exists in the temple, was written by Dai Degui in 1927. It also records in detail that it is the oldest mosque in Tianjin.
This mosque, together with Tianmu mosque and xiaohuoxiang mosque in northwest corner, is one of the three famous mosques in Tianjin. This is the first one built in the urban area of Tianjin, which also shows that sanchahekou has become very prosperous and there are many Hui people living here. It is said that the mosques in Yuchang street of Hebei District were also built in the Ming Dynasty. The mosques in Chenjiagou and Xiaowangzhuang were built in the 1930s. These places are gathering places for Hui people. In recent years, four mosques in Hebei District have been renovated.
