Shandong Geological Museum

Located in Lixia District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, Shandong Provincial Museum of geology is a local comprehensive geological science museum in China.

It was established in 1976 and opened in 1986. It mainly collects, treasures and manages physical samples, geological data and mineral treasures, popularizes geological science and technology, and conducts geological and mineral research. There are more than 10000 specimens in the collection. Among them, there are 812.5g natural gold clusters found in Qixia, Laizhou (Ye County) and Zhaoyuan natural gold nuggets (goutoujin), primary diamond and diamond placer samples with various crystal shapes in Yimeng mountain area, and an octahedral diamond embedded in kimberlite with good crystal shape.

The new Shandong Geological Museum opened on April 22, 2017. It is located at 114 Jingshi East Road, Lixia District, Jinan City, covering an area of more than 4300 square meters. Shandong Provincial Geological Museum is a public welfare institution directly under the Department of land and resources of Shandong Province. It is one of the first national popular science bases of land and resources. It is an important window to show the achievements of geoscience research, popularize Geoscience Knowledge, and popularize popular science knowledge of land and resources in Shandong Province. It is also a patriotic education base. It is a modern geoscience subject to comprehensively display the geological resources and publicize the achievements of land and resources in Shandong Province General stadium.

Collection specimens

There are more than 10000 specimens in Shandong Provincial Geological Museum, including mineral resources, various minerals, rocks and gemstones, geological phenomena, strata, paleontological fossils, various minerals and rocks, and typical examples of ore deposits. Among them, there are 812.5 treasures found in Qixia In addition, there are also plant fossils, fish fossils, reptile turtles, turtles and snakes from Shanwang, Linqu, Mammal rhinoceros, deer, teeth and other fossil specimens.

There are four exhibition rooms in the exhibition building. The first is the specimen of mineral resources (including medicinal minerals) in Shandong Province

The second exhibition room is Shandong precious jade, color stone and Shandong "three stone" decorative materials, ceramic, glaze, mountain stone, bonsai and Lu inkstone and other handicraft specimens; the third exhibition room is geological science popularization; the fourth exhibition room shows the development and utilization of mineral resources and typical deposit examples in Shandong Province.

The new building has three floors and seven exhibition halls. The first floor is divided into preface hall, earth homeland hall and life evolution hall. The second floor is the hall of natural treasures and brilliant achievements. The third floor is the hall of earth style and stone sea treasures. At the same time, the museum also has a temporary exhibition hall of calligraphy and painting and 4D dynamic cinema.

Important events

The museum also holds temporary exhibitions of gems, colored stones, inkstones, ceramics, glass, building decoration materials, mountain stone bonsai and other activities. It also holds geoscience summer camp and other activities through geological science and technology consultation. Since its opening, the museum has received people from all walks of life, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and foreign guests, with an annual audience of over 10000.

1、 Opening hours

From Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00-11:30 a.m. (11:10) and 14:00-16:30 p.m. (16:10). From Tuesday to Thursday, it is only open to groups; from Friday to Saturday, it is open to the public. Legal holidays, winter and summer holidays and special circumstances will be notified separately.
